While I think its the best song thats came out of the 00's... I think his best song hasnt come yet... There is something above the purple rains, the outtakes, the last decembers, and the rest of the crap that falls behind it.. he just needs to find himself, instead of followin a washed up musician who would have probably laughed in Prince's face is he came up to him sayin the same preachin in his prime.

I don't think so, but it is my daughter's favorite song on the cd... she is only four, but then again maybe she knows soemthing i don't.

Musically and lyrically I love this song, but it seems out of place on TRC (The Everlasting Now would have maken a great last track), and the production seems very similar to The Holy River and many other KAJ-era productions...

But it's all a matter of opinion ain't it. To me it's a rather formulaeic Prince anthem album closer - Gold, Whereever U Go.., Purple Rain et all.

I remember an interview during the "Gold Experience" era where he said "Gold" was going to be considered better than "Purple Rain." I get the sense he falls in love with his current music and then falls out of love with it when it doesn't grab either him or his audience after a year.

I think it's an earnest, heartfelt song. But as far as a spiritual track, it doesn't touch No or 4 the Tears in Your Eyes or The Cross.

But "Gold" IS better than "Purple Rain". At least I think so!

last december is my favorite on rainbow children, its not the best song hes ever written though.

i guess the best song would also have to be the most successful one which is purple rain for non-prince-fans, for me as a fan there is a best song on every album, there is always one that is my favorite, but after all everybody has got their own taste, which is kewl.

There are quite are few Prince songs that out regarded as Epics (Purple rain being the most obvious) but 'Last december' is also widely regarded as one of the best.

For example: right now I think Empty room is the best, but my oppion often changes.
