Classics. Up there with the best. As an album...very weak. Thats why in never gets the credit. Its an average album.

As for the choice of Come mix!?!?!!? the "video" version is so much more original! Add the video version to the list of tracks above. the released version? Weak Prince on heat.

I've never heard the unreleased "spiritual version" of Come. How can I hear it?

G.

There was an edit of it in The Beautiful Experience TV movie broadcast in a LOT of countries in '94. biggrin

Prince played it live on the Act II tour in '93 and the live version was very close to the recorded version.

Also, the original version was in Glam Slam Ulysses in '93, although separated into two parts. With the help of a double tapedeck, you can easily put the parts together and get the complete 5:27 minutes studio version. It is a very good and catchy song. biggrin

I happened to really enjoy this album. Somewhat of a dark theme to it, and the black & white photography helped support that. It was given low ratings around here when it was released, but it does kind of grow on you.

"Come" is rocky, funky and just damn underrated. I think if "Come" would have had a few of the "Undertaker" tracks on there (these projects were around the same time, right?), it would have been amazing!

Yes,one of his better albums. It deals with some of the social ills we face(or don't want to face) everyday. Child abuse(Papa), depression(Dark), fetishes(Pheromone)... etc.
I like both versions of Come too.

Definitely one of his coolest moments because it's so dark and different from everything else. The title track is still one of my favorite tracks of his and the song "Dark" just hits me...every time I hear it...man I get chills! (I didn't realy dig the version on Crystal Ball) And I think it's clever how he used orgasm as a metaphor for purging himself of his past, something I think a lot of people missed and just thought he was being dirty.

I love this album! I wore out the cassette, then I purchased it again on CD.

IMO, Come is his best 90's album release.

One of the last good, original Prince albums before the name change.

ah, I'm reminded just how good this album is again. Yes; underrated. Almost forgotten, even. It's v.good.

I also like the darkish mood flowing throughout the album.

OMG!!! I pulled this album out for the first time in about five years to give it another listen. It's like I'm listening to it for the first time.

...and??

I told you the title track is irresistible once you give it a chance! I dare anyone to play the title track from beginning to end, turned up, with no other distracting noise, and tell me it wasn't an orgasmic experience.

...And it's wonderful. It's like listening to a brand new Prince album and loving songs right off the bat. I can't remember why I shelved it in the first place.

It's a nice, little album for what it is. It doesn't pretend to be grand. I kind of like it that way. That said, I wouldn't rank it among Prince's top half.

woot!
Yay!

I love that feeling. It's a high that can make your whole week. I'm still walking on air over the songs you sent me last week. mushy

Now try this with "Come" - when you don't feel like cleaning or washing the dishes or whatever, turn it up loud! That first "you should do that baby!" can motivate you to do anything. And the groove will keep your ass shakin' while you scrub that pan.

Excatly, and I think that was the problem with some of his bottom half albums like "Rave".

I think like a lot of people on this site, reading this thread prompted a re-listen to the album.

Initially (six years ago, i was 16) the tracks that stood out were race, loose, papa & dark. re-listening to it i appreciate that this is on the whole a very tasty little package from our boy.

whilst the tracks that i origionally enjoyed remained fresh and intersting to my ears (especially loose and papa), the first three tracks appealed to the mature side of my musical taste. The horns on come, the chilled out vibe on space, and the funky, electro feel on phermone all found new meaning to me. This album will stay in my stereo for a few more days...untill another thread appears prompting a re-listen to other underated albums such as 'chaos' or 'NPS'!

p.s. 'loose' is definately prince's most succesful attempt at techno pop/rock that i have heard.

I wouldn't say that it was one of his best, but still a decent album, nevertheless. Very dark and very erotic.
