No,I can't say that 'Come' is one of his best albums.I do like a few tracks ("Space" is nice, and the title track features some great horns),but the album as a whole is very disappointing.Alot of it sounds uninspired and by-the-numbers,and several songs ("Papa","Solo" and "Orgasm") should have remained in the vault.imo.I don't think Prince's heart was really in this project.

DavidEye - long time no see!!

I agree with you about Orgasm, but I find both Papa and Solo to be 2 of his most personal and haunting tunes.

I really enjoy(ed) this album, save for the closer. The production and resultant sound of the album was quite a departure for him at the time - a very moody, dark feel to most of the record.

Defenatly one of the best. I think people oversee it, and I can't figure out why!! It's wonderful, the songs are passionate and sexy, very smooth. Ok, he could have left "Solo" out, but it's great to only hear the voice and nothing more. The add of the water-sounds on the beach..gives a whole new sounds, a whole different feeling. Almost like U're there with Prince while listening to the song. His voice... says itself, doesn't it?

Does anyone else think the guitar noise in Orgasm is exactly the same as what preceded Ronnie Talk to Russia? Sounds a lot alike 2 me...
Come is a very cool album, just listened to it the other day and have much more respect for it now...

The unreleased '93 version - why, even the unreleased early '94 version - of Come are far superior. Everytime Warners turned it down, he removed some of the best songs.

The sex-version of Come that got released is inferior to the spiritual Come-version that preceded it, and the '94 track Letitgo is lame.

Although inferior to unreleased versions, I still think the released Come album is among his best '90-albums. Because the '93 tracks Space, Pheromone, Loose! (ROCKS!), Papa, Dark and Solo are on it. biggrin

Anxiety

It took me five years to fully dig on this album, but once it slapped me upside the head, I was a believer. I can easily say that this is my favorite album of his from the 90s...there might be songs from other albums that I like more from his 90s output, but as a whole package, Come is the one I like most from beginning to end.

I've never heard the unreleased "spiritual version" of Come. How can I hear it?

I remember buying it the summer it came out. It was 1 album that I liked instantly. I think its 1 Prince album that U dont realise just how good it actually is. However I would say that it begins 2 tail off at the end.

No, I don't think this was one of his best. Although, I do like several songs on the cd. Come is great and so is Papa and Pheremone. It does have a certain sex appeal, but I don't think it's one of his best nor do I think it's one the his best from the 90's. I give it a 6 out of 10.

I loved "Come" from the first time I listened to on the day of its release.
It is strongly dark and organic.
It seems I'm in a strictly minority but I've always prefered the released version of "Come" to previous versions; the title track is really wonderful and honestly I would never change "Letitgo" with "Straight of the world" or "Interactive" (even tought I liked them also)...
By the way it also contains "Space" that is one of my favourite P's songs.

Not to pick, but it's "Strays of the World",not Straight, but I agree, I can't see those songs on this album.
Come is my favorite album as a whole. It is true dark/sex/kinda pissed off Prince. You gotta love the Universal Love Remix of Space also...

I wouldn't necessarily buy that. But the title track, "Dark" and "Letitigo" are great songs. "Papa" is a well-written and meaningful song but didn't grab me.

I think Come is one of his best albums.

Critics over here (Holland) were very positive (it even made it to the 'Moordlijst'! - a Dutch alternative chart). Same goes for the Gold Experience.

I remember collecting the boots with outtakes of Come and Gold that were circulating - I was so excited about it all smile
