i hope those who paid $1000 for the privilege of meeting him don't feel burned by the fact that 50 people got to see a pre show gig for 20 bucks...

I just watched the clip...it was definitely cool, if ya haven't seen it, check it out. I did feel a little sad watching it, though - the man just can't do "Baby I'm A Star" like he useta. The moves aren't there anymore, the screams have diminished to a nasty little out-of-breath growlcackle...I don't think I'm comfortable seeing Prince play old hits that he's too old to re-create and/or too set in his ways to repurpose for his present self. The last thing I wanna see is a Vegas lounge act version of faded glory. I'm thinking it's a good thing that he's retiring all the hits...

Awesome, thanks for the link. I am all melancholic now, I need to see him again. Ah well settle for the DVD. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

nice clip but it's funny it just doesn't look right him doing that song now...he seems so past that point. I want to see him though...I hope he tours here next year. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

God - u and I are SO on the same wavelength AnX! I was thinking this recently too. Sure, I can dig the fact the guy aint getting any younger, and that what with his knee trouble that the high-octane physical performance is gonna diminish, and I admire him 4 sterring his career away from that as best he can, I just dont want 2 see him turn in2 some tired, lame-assed vegas lounge act that people pay 2 see 2 relive their lost halycon youth. That would be sad. Of couse, that aint ever gonna happen... Is it? Glad everybody in Oceania is having a ball - it's about time, Im really chuffed 4 them!

Hmmm...although I did notice the "out-of-breath growlcackle," this made me a whole lot less uncomfortable than say sitting through Raspberry Beret on last year's tour.
I actually came away from this clip thinking that I can play if I like but I HAVE to see him if he comes to the states for this tour. But then again, I'm one effed up mofo. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Okay, I just watched it again and while I'm not reversing my first opinion exactly, I WILL say that I'd be so fucking thrilled if I could see him play a whole concert without any Purple Rain at all. Maybe he'll change up the PR ratio a bit - it's still early in the tour...is there actually gonna BE a tour aside from this smattering of dates, does anyone know? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

As much as I loved the Purple Rain days, the ONA concert in comparision is overshadowing this tour. Never thought Prince would stop jumping around the stage...peterpan syndrome

it is kinda strange to see him get older, isn't it. what's worse is that it means we're getting older too...quick, somebody cue 'landslide'!

Is it that he's too old to recreate Baby I'm a Star or that he's just not feelin it anymore?
Either way... I'm firmly planted in denial

Is he really having knee trouble? I couln't tell.

Purple Rain is like grade school compared to masters's degree music he is performing now. Purple Rain is great, but I was never one of those fans who wanted to see him rehash it again and again just because it was his biggest selling album.
One of the biggest standouts on ONA Live, to me, is how much more advanced his current music sounds than his past hits. Thankfully, Prince is such a great musician that he doesn't need to fall back onto the hits to entertain. The ONA tour proved that. Prince is just giving Australia a chance to catch up to the rest of us.
