Some of the band members during the graffiti bridge era approached him about his hygiene and he hasn't been funky since, well, except when he was recording the "COME" album he might've went a couple of days without a shower.

Have a closer look at his current band: Its made up by a list of funk musicians; people who have been playing nothing but funk in their entire lives. The composition of this band is nothing but funk.

Name me more phase in Prince?s career which was more funky... he had some funky shit out on "Exodus" (the instrumental cut "New Power Soul" is deep fried funk) and during the "Dream Factory" era, but thats about it. Prince has always been more about pop than funk. It hasnt been until now, that real funk musicians are paying close attention to him and are finally taking him seriously as a funk musician.
