Thing is, it's such an elaborate pastiche of Queen type rock opera songs that you have to admire it musically on some level. It could be taken semi seriously if it weren't for blatantly OTT parts like 'If it wasn't for the fact that you belong to another whose name is Self Reightous Ness' which I HATE. It's fun.

Not sure. I kept asking myself that exact question over and
over when I developed a new fondness for the o(+> album two
or three weeks ago. I listened to it a lot in my car and I
have to say, I do quite like the song.

I'm just not sure what to think of it. Like with the rest
of that whole album, there are moments of sheer genius, but
they are off-set with very lame kitsch and toe-crinching
silliness [I need a spelling checker].

But all in all, I think it's quite a nice tune. Perhaps I
started feeling so dubious about the album ever since I saw
the 3ChainsOfGold video. That kind of made the images for
the songs way to weird for my taste.

I keep seeing Prince on rollerskates in a silk bathrobe
with a Venetian mask on and a typhoon hairdo.

That kind of thing will make anyone hinge toward "drivel"
when confronted with the music again

Fantastic songs, fun storyline - although I get the feeling I'm laughing at him rather than with him. It's bonkers but fun.

For a plebean like myself, it has the whiff of drivel - not what I would suggest to showcase the man's genius.

It's like Anna Stesia, Anna Christian, and Others here with us. These four songs are rough, unpolished gems.

was my first new release as a Prince fan, and as such has always had a special place in my heart.

3 Chains isn't ground-breaking, it's pretty dirivitive, but I like it, and I love the guitar work at the end.

It's an album that holds together extremely well, haven't heard it in God knows how long, but it's a classic CD, IMO.

The out-take segues were well edited IMO, they might have obscured the story line of the "rock opera", but it was a pretty thin story line any way, and the fact that the video wasn't released for WAY too long after the album meant that the segues would have just stood out even more as a nuisance.

I mean that "Oh my God, what is that!" one with Mayte and some little brat - good job she's pretty cuz she can't act or sing for shit.

Marvellous, pompous nonsense. Maybe Prince's tribute to Freddie Mercury, who must have died a year or two before its release.

I think of '3 Chains' as a sort of cousin of 'Strays of the World', musically anyway.

That tear it up guitar work at the end is awesome!

I'd call it pretentious genius; which is why I love our little maggot. He definetly listened to Bohemian Rhapsody before Mayte went down on him.

I wonder if Tommy Lee has seen it? Someone ought to post him a copy, along with THAT wedding program. That would shit him up, how can he stand in the way of destiny? He is one of the Seven who must fall!

I quite like it, its very dramatic and exciting but im sure its trying to emulate Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody

i absolutely love it to bits

it's neither genius nor drivel, actually. it's just a fun track. an obvious ripoff of bohemian rhapsody in parts, but who gives a fuck. i learned quickly with the symbol album to ignore the supposed storyline and just enjoy it as a collection of songs. but yeah, it sounds like it was a fun song for him to record. tribute? possibly. who knows? who cares?
