MUSICOLOGY: WHAT IF...

I have a bad feeling about this.

No where have we heard there is a "NEW" album coming. We all just asume there is because of this "Musicology" song and the new video shoot last week.

Now...here me out. What if the song is going to be the single to promote the "NEW" 7 CD "Chocolate Invasion" set to the general public. He knows some of us will want these songs in CD quality, but I'm sure he also knows that many of us are pissed its a rehash of things we already have. So he will need to sell it to the public also. Hence the video shoot.

I think he is also, rightfully, proud of many of these songs and especially the ONA CD. I think he wants more people to hear that and this is going to be the reason that a "NEW" song (i.e. "Musicology") will be included.

Remember...no one has ANY info on ANY new album coming out, only "The Chocolate Invasion".

Discuss...

I'm all for a public release, that way I can buy it in a
store and not have to wait for it for months until npgmc
deliver it to my door.

But if he wants more people to hear these cool albums and
songs included in that box, I think he misjudges the fans
again since there aren't many people besides the orgers &
a handfull of fanatics who will buy a 7 cd box from Prince
right now.

Not unless it is very very very reasonably priced, and we
have learned from experience that such is very rarely the
case.

But hey, I'm all for it. Throw a few new and/or unreleased
tunes into the package and release it to retail.

I'll buy it.

I agree...but my post was intended to illicit a response to the whole "Musicology" new album rumour, of which my theory is above...anyone?

i'm an enthusiastic prince fan. i dig the man's music. but i know i'm not going to buy this 7 cd set. the price could be reasonable, but reasonable would still be a lot. why not sell these cd's separate too?
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain

Im sure a new album will be on its way soon, although Id be surprised if we got it before early 2004. If he's going on a world tour next year, he'll want something new to perform, simply to keep him interested.

The Chocolate Invasion will be released simply to draw a line under his somewhat sporadic output over the last few years. As many fans have pointed out, there are some great songs going unnoticed simply because they were singles or downlaods. By collecting them together, it puts some closure on it.

It seems to me youre suggesting prince's songwritings has dried up, and lets be honest that wont happen.

We've not had a proper album of songs since May 2002, so its not unbelieveable that Prince will have a new albums worth of material to release. Since when has he ever been happy flogging old songs. He thrives on recording and releasing new stuff, so just be a bit patient and the new album will arrive. Whether its good or not is a completely different matter however.

We don't all assume there is a "NEW" album coming out.

More assumptions. More 'What ifs ...' Just wait and see.

I think he is also, rightfully, proud of many of these songs and especially the ONA CD. I think he wants more people to hear that and this is going to be the reason that a "NEW" song (i.e. "Musicology") will be included.

Even more assumptions

We have a statement from NPGMC saying a 7CD set will come out. No date set. I've not seen any tracklisting yet. Just a statement of intent. Sometimes they announce things and they happen, and sometimes they don't. Speculating on what will happen is futile, and substituting your own assumptions for someone else's based on 'a bad feeling' achieves nothing.

I was under the impression that "Musicology" would be the first single from Prince's new pop album,as part of his new deal with Universal Records? Has anyone else heard this rumor?

What details do we have for Prince having deals with Universal Music Group?

Universal Music Group does not list Prince as one of their recording artists.

http://new.umusic.com

Prince signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing several years ago.

http://www.universalmusic...shing.com/

He features on their website as an arist on their roster for the purposes of publishing, and they promote his output there, which makes sense because they want to sell the music to collect their share under the deal. But this deal is for publishing, as far as is known.

Prince has also signed a deal with Universal Music Enterprises

http://www.universalmusic...prises.com

and / or one of their subsidiaries, Hip-O Records

http://www.hip-o.com

who are behind 'Prince Live at The Aladdin Las Vegas.' However, they list only the DVD as a Prince product with which they are connected, and there is no evidence that their connection goes beyond this item.

Which leaves me wondering what information (substantiated) is available that Prince has recently signed a new deal with a Universal company for anything other than the release of the DVD?

Perhaps Universal are setting up a new subsidiary called Flying Pig Records especially for that ever-so-likely project wink

Why add one new song to a 7 cd set when all of the music on The Chocolate Invasion is new to the general public. The non-NPGMC members haven't heard the majority of the downloads or ONA - why not make a video for one of those songs? No point in added a bonus track to a collection of all new material.
And the bitching you would get - only one new track! Prince is ripping NPGMC members off by added only one lousy track. All those songs in The Vault & all he can add is ONE bonus track. Prince is ripping us off. First he makes us pay for all the downloads - then he puts the downloads on cds & all he can add is one new track. Now I have to buy a 7 cd set for one lousy song. Bad Karma.
I don't think Prince & Co. would be that nuts. If Prince wanted to dangle a carrot to bring NPGMC members around he would put a cd of all new music to include with the 7 cd set. But I don't think Prince thinks that is needed. The lure of 7 cds of for the most part previously unavailable in cd form music is enough. Why waste a new track?

Because he's Prince.

Oh and Langebleu, lighten up. I was posting something I was thinking about. I wondered if others thought the same. Your negativity is not needed. I guess you dont feel the same as I do and that's cool, but do u need to put me down for it?

And for everyone who is about to say "Welcome to the Org!"...been here, since 98.

I'm chilled, thanks. I'm not experiencing a bad feeling about the 7CD set including one unreleased track, because there is no reason to believe that will happen.
