either that, or squirrelgrease just may be one of those who've been a fan since the beginning and is startin to become sorta burnt-out a bit. it happens, y'know. it don't mean one is a pessimist for that. i thought it mean one was a hater or not a true fan and they should get out? and to take their f'ass-flavored fritos along with 'em? exactly Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

I felt that the show was predictable and boring. It wasn't a good representation of what the ONA shows were like. Prince did the ONA set on two nights at the Celebration, and they were out of this world. I have other ONA shows on audio that are a pleasure to listen to, even though they are sourced from an audience member. You have probably seen the actual set-list from the Vegas show. Prince put his editors into overtime before putting out this disc. The Purple Perpetrator could have given us the World. He gave us Wisconsin instead. The glass is always half-empty for u, isn't it? U seem to be one of those fans that have seen too many shows, has too many bootlegs etc. In other words u have immersed yourself so deeply in the purple world that u have a hard time finding satisfaction anymore. Every song, every album, and every dvd are not going to be the greatest triumph of his career. As a matter of fact with each song, album, video etc. it becomes even harder to top himself because u have so much to compare it too. Man just cut him some slack (and yourself too). It will all be over someday, enjoy it least a little bit. Peace. While I can understand why you'd make this comment, I don't think it's true at all. I've felt the same way as SG! I actually went with a very casual fan, and they enjoyed the video. They asked why I wasn't so high on it, and I said it's OK, but compared to some of the stuff I've seen of his in the past, it pales in comparison!!! There was so much energy in those shows, and it wasn't just about the music. It's just not the same, and it's not because we've seen so many shows that we can't get excited about anything anymore. Cuz, popping in some of the older shows still gets me excited!! And not in that way either.

If u have seen a million shows dating from the 80's to now u may have a harder time appreciating the present. As u watch the newest work u are busy thinking he sung this song better, played guiter better, had better stage presence etc. in some earlier film. In comparing a person over 20 years you are bound to see a lessening in physical abilities if nothing else. That youthful energy is gone. So is the newness of performing. I'm sure he still enjoys performing, but probably in a different way then when it was fresh and new for him. Don't hate on the brother for not being 25 anymore.

No, I'm actually saying that if one were to compare the two performances (say, one from the ONA DVD and one from Birthday Parade), there would be a REMARKABLE difference. There's a helluva lot more enegry, fire, spunk, and power in one performance for that birthday gig than on the entire ONA disc. It's not about remembering if something was done better, but just doing a simple, side-by-side comparison. That same casual fan indeed saw the difference when I showed her footage of something in the 80s. And some of ONAL was new to him when it was recorded too, so it's not a question of what's new to him or not.

Well, one thing 4 sure, watching the dvd on Sunday made the REAL THING last night look 1,000,000% better!
And I thought I was emotional watching "aladdin live"! I grinned like an idiot the whole way through the soundcheck and the concert I could just eat him up with a spoon. He's looking pretty damn good to me! Man, he is so perfect I STILL want to marry him.

See soundcheck setlist under Concerts.
I really enjoyed the "soundcheck" (pre-show show, more like), I stood a couple of metres away from the stage, grinning from ear to ear and singing my little lungs out. I think it was the second song, when Rhonda started playing it sounded really weird, kind of booming, and they all stopped, fixed it up and started again (man, I am not good with details like this, someone else will probably know exactly), that was the only clue to it being a soundcheck. $1000 ticket holders would have got the Q&A after the soundcheck I'm guessing.

And some of ONAL was new to him when it was recorded too, so it's not a question of what's new to him or not. Would, could, should, this or that? I have seen most of his past videos and a lot of concerts also... And heard a lot of music released and otherwise. But the point is The New DVD is a capture of Prince here in the early 2000's His past shows were very very good. But The DVD does have some form of merit. The DVD is good because of a lot of things, that part is variable. But it does contain great footage of a man who has been doing concerts for a long time. It's a new glimpse into the aura of what makes Prince a wonderful, unique American artist. If the DVD only had one song on it. It would have been enough to capture the energy and the emotion. I'm glad it was recorded. I'm glad it was released. I have been a fan for a long time and seen it all. But I won't discount Prince by over comparing his work. Surely Prince could have humped the stage, jacked off a guitar and rolled around on stage. If he wanted to live up to his past. He is not doing shows like that currently. He is doing a smooth casual show, wearing a nice suit, workin the guitar, having a great time. Prince is tight, looking good and feeling good... That's what the DVD captures. That's why it does have merit. More merit to some and less to others. But it does have merit.
