How many times have you actually listened to NEWS??

I mean, listening to it closely from beginning to end??

I have yet to listen to the full album myself...

It's played from start to finish without interruption maybe 10-20 times.

But I only sat down to listen to it completely once. What I mean is, I only concentrated on the music once. Every other time it made for good background music.

One or maybe two...I hope I will get into NEWS next time. At the moment I can´t feel the sound and magic of Prince music in that album...I wish I could ...but I like to be honest.

Twice all the way through, a couple of times for the odd track here and there.

Total yawn-fest.

About twenty five times.
It's great. When you leave it for a while and then play it again it's a delight.

Art, Amsterdam, Holland.

P.S.. Trust me. It's a really ok album!

6 or 7 all the way through, probably each track on it's own 10 times or so.

Just approximating, I'd say I've listened to the whole album 30 or more times. I'm definitely a NEWS lover.

I feel sorry for the people that have only listened to the album once. I understand that instrumental jazz may not be everyone's thing... but, how can any fan listen to ANYTHING by Prince only once??? Just like any other Prince album, if you listen to it only once then you're missing a whole lot! One listen, and NEWS is just abstract rambling. The more you listen the more the album begins to take shape and form with purpose. You begin to hear Princes "voice" in the music... not his voice with words, but his voice through pure sound... the inflection, the emotion, it's all there. Just my opinion.

Isn't it funny how so much of "the man's" music has to be an acquired taste? Deep down you know it's good, but you have to be open to accept it...kinda like Jesus (damn, i just compared Prince's music to Jesus)

Ive lost count. I love N.E.W.S.

The music may be different, yet there are a lot of similarities in the dynamics of his work. For example, young and old music, I can still find new bits on it after hearing plenty of times.

He is such a genius.

I've listened to it maybe 20 times or so...still not particularly feeling it. I mean, I love Eric Leeds' playing and all, but Prince's guitar work on here feels incidental...whereas on Xpectation it feels ESSENTIAL. Of course, Xpectation has that grating violin sound on it...

haven't actually counted...that seems like a strannge concept...imagine counting the times you listen to any given cd...phew! lol

i've played it a bunch. its good background music when i have a paper to write or some homework to do. you know, no lyrics to distract me. plus, i read somewhere a long while ago, that listening to jazz or clasical music is good for the brain...something about it helps you think better and focus easier. that seems to hold true with me.

Exactly. But I figure if you can count how many times you've listened you probably haven't listened much.

I agree wholeheartly with your opinion. It really is lame to listen to something as abstract as NEWS and come to some conclusion about its content or how u will feel about it after u begin to learn it after only a couple of listens. This is not fast food!! If u approach it as such u are bound to be disapointed. Its like taking a child to a fancy restaurant. They are not ready for it. They are expecting the big mac. Prince himself realizes this. That is why he continually asks for his audience to release themselves from their expectations. Some however cannot.
