something in the water (does not compute) unreleased ...

Ay' has anybody heard the unreleased version of something in the water? I don't know when it was released, but I'm listening to it right now and all I can say is, it's absolutely beautiful. Whenever I listen to it, I get this feeling inside that makes me wanna cry. I can feel the bitterness Prince was feeling at the time. In this piece, Prince slows it up, it's a littl more jazzy and there's a piano solo at the end. I can most definetly see him performing this version live. I'm making a 1999 outtake CD, so I was happy to find this when I did, I would recommend this 2 anybody who hasn't heard it, you'll truly enjoy it.

I think the 1999 version is superrior 2 the unreleased version and glad he left that piano part out. Kinda gives the haunting feeling away. He doesnt scream in it at all either. Im still glad 2 hav it tho.

This is my favorite Prince song. The piano version is fantastic, almost as good as the icy released masterpiece. The song seems quite versatile, with different emotions and sensations portrayed in the released version, the piano version and the live rehearsal on "Neon Rendezvous."

For me that is the one Prince live track that really made me go mad! How on earth did he change the song completly?? It's amazing! I love the pain in his voice, the gutair work, the raw edge . . oh it's orgasmic.

I think the unreleased version of Something In The Water is WAY superior to the released version.

Can't make up my mind ...

The piano-work in the unreleased version is fantastic,
but I miss the screaming of the released version!

I think it's far better than the 1999 version. As there are no backing vocals from the band it's a little more personal.

No reason for me to choose between the two.

They both have elements the other doesn't have.
It's not always a case of one being better than
the other when both versions are different.

Mark my words: you need to hear both the unreleased version, plus the rehearsal from 'Neon Rendezvous'.

The latter is truly essential listening.

I concur. The officially released version sounds cold and sterile by comparison.
