The Future appreciation thread.

Not a great fan of the album, but The Future is a wonderful track!

Is there much love around for this one?

It's wicked. However, I liked the whole album. Arms of Orian wasn't to my taste but other than that!

The whole album is good it's just a shame that it got wasted on such a commercial endeavor. From an artistic standpoint anyway.

Agreed. Also I think that extra bit of freedom would of resulted in the inclusion of some better tracks or at least versions.

"The Future" is amazing! I was hooked on this song from the first time I played the album.I love that pulsing beat. and the hypnotic feel of this song.I really think that this song would have made a fine single, and could have been really popular in the clubs. The lyrics are cool too...

"Yellow Smiley offers me X
like he's drinkin' 7 Up
I would rather drink six razor blades
razor blades from a paper cup"

smile time to pull out my 'Batman' CD

If I was Prince I would of done it a bit differently...

Side A

The future
Electric chair
I love U in me
Partyman (Long)
Vicki waiting

Side B

Trust
Lemon Crush
Sex
Batdance (Batmix)
Dance with the devil

(On second thoughts I don't think that would fit on vinal)

Scandelous is wonderful but I'm not sure it fits the album. It's like 'When 2 R in love' on 'The black album'. That should be Sex's B-side.

The Future was released as a single in Europe in 1990 and became something of a party favourite in my college. The remix, which emphasised that "pulsing beat" to the max was made by Mark Moore, formerly of S-Express.

I like the spooky synths and background vox that slight...and the chichiwa groove in the center
"Climb in my fur."

Indeed, one of the most underappreciated songs he's ever done!

I think it captured the feel on the first movie, tho. And I felt good to see P at the top of the charts after taking such a commercial (and in some circles, critical) beating the year before for Lovesexy.

Quite.

People often forget there was a backlash after the release of Lovesexy.

TRON

Batman is one of my favorite Prince albums. It's the first one I owned. And "The Future" is my favorite song on it. Still one of my top 10 Prince songs. The beat, vocals, sound effects and strings are amazing.
