which in your opinion is prince's last truly great album?

ONA Live. Then ONA. Then Rainbow children.

I've got to say that I think most of the new stuff rocks. Xpectations and News were nice, but not so amazing.

i'm finding it hard to get into the "new direction in music" and can't get into xpectation or news.
the rainbow children has grown on me and i admire the change in style.
but for me one nite alone rocks!
maybe he should have released this instead in news.
rave was dissapointing but i liked emancipation.

i'e got high and think its a better album that rave.
a great album it would have made if he had taken the best from rave and the best from high.

yes its the album that u can buy from the npg music club.
i wasn't sure about it really cos i've heard its not much differnet.
anyway, i thinks its only about 10.00, isn't expensive so may purchase.

Lovesexy is the last album that took me somewhere different, the last one that I could get lost in and that I fell in love with 1,000%. It was the last album that engaged all five senses through what it was doing to my ears. You can see that album, you can feel it...hell, you can even SMELL the damn thing, it's so funky.

After that kind of a feeling, it's kind of unfair to expect the same kind of experience from someone whose standards compel him to release a new album every year. Not to mention the fact that I've gotten older and my tastes have changed, and of course Prince has gotten older and his asthetics have changed greatly (as they will continue to do, I am sure).

That said, the last album of his I was impressed by and that I enjoy all the way through would have to be Xpectation. I think the whole thing is playful and imaginitive, far more so than NEWS in my opinion, and while not as much of a headrush as something like Lovesexy, it's easy for me to get lost in the music as I follow the melodies from point to point. Maybe if NEWS were broken up into more tracks, I'd appreciate it on the same level, I dunno...but Xpectation is definitely an underappreciated high point to me.
