I just read on (www.musictap.net) that a Morris Day Best of is coming on Feb 24. It did not say what label, but this is also an interesting move.

With TimeWarner in such financial straits, I do think that they would sell Prince back his masters at this point. So it would make sense for him to team up with someone with the dough (Uni), and buy it back. He agrees to pimp himself for a little while, and Uni gets to go crazy pushing remasters, while they both get paid...

The plan for 2004:
Every Warner Brothers Prince cd will be re-released exclusively by
Universal Music. All cd's will be completely remastered using the
24k bit system, all cd's will come with a 24 page full color booklet
featuring new pictures of Prince and commentary written about each
album, and each album will have 7 unreleased tunes included during
the sessions at the time of when each album was recorded and
written ! So for example with " For You," from 1978, Prince will
include," Miss U," " Donna," " Soft and Wet ( remix version," and so
on...
Then in June of 2004 Purple Rain will be re-released onto dvd
fully remastered by Universal Music including 2 live performances re-
edited back into the film and some deleted short scenes too. The cd
will be a 2 cd set including 7 tunes added to the soundtrack album,
a full color booklet with new pictures of Prince never seen and from
that era, and a remastered soundtrack that will sound better than
ever!!

Also the NPGMC is now advertising a 7 cd set of every tune that
was a part of the NPGMC from year ONE- NOW ! It will be called," The
Chocolate Invasion".
One of the cd's will be," Xpectation," featuring a bonus track
of the studio version of " Xenophobia."
The other cd's will be all the tunes from the first year the
NPGMC was open for business. ( You know all of the monthly
downloads)
The War will be included too!! The C-Note live rehearsal tracks
that Prince allowed all of the members to download for free who were
in the club last January too, everything even "Reflection!!"

Also there will be a brand new Prince studio vocal cd that will
be released featuring all new tunes by Prince in 2004. Right now he
is shooting a video for the new song," Musicology," which will be on
the new upcoming cd!!

I think he made the right choice in dealing with a record company
again.[/quote]

I'm not saying I believe this but it would make sense. The 7 extra tracks will probably just be b-sides & extended versions + maybe the odd demo.

Every bugger else has had the reissue treatment and I'm sure the sales for the current versions must have dwindled down quite a bit. Universal have been building bridges with Prince & if they could get him to approve some official remasters with bonus tracks, then they'd be onto a winner & TW would get some cash.

Prince has a buzz at the moment. He's back in the papers, in the UK he's back in the clubs, there's a big 80's thing going on - it all adds up.

This is probably a deal that's being mooted and thrashed out. Let's hope it works.

Are they saying the albums 1978-1992, or every WB release? Because I can't see C&D being remastered and re-released with extra bonus tracks.

Right I've had an e-mail from the guy who deals with press for the Universal back catalogue. He won't confirm or deny.

In my book, that means a deal is being thrashed out but WB have yet to sign on the dotted line.

Cross everything.

We would all love it to be true but it wont happen because 1] there's no source for the info and 2] even if it were true it is way too commercially sound and well planned for Prince to carry it off. Next we'll have Bart saying he's excited aswell!!!.

This all ties in too conveniently with the rumor of Prince getting all his masters back next year...
Anyway if there's gonna be 2 "performances" inserted back into "Purple Rain" then IIRC those can only be "G-Spot" by The Revolution and "Wednesday" by Jill Jones...
Don't know of any other performance footage that was shot...

I reckon it's out of his hands now, this is probably all now down to Warner & Universal being able to agree a reasonable deal that is satisfactory for all parties. hmmm

The deal between Prince and Universal is irrelevant because it's WB that owns the masters, and Prince isn't interested in cutting a deal with them.

He's also not interested in selling albums with curse words, so don't expect this to happen... ever.

We all know about "Chocolate Invasion" and a song called "Musicology". All the rest is wishful thinking. Nice if it happens though.

Besides, given the ongoing fractious state of relations between Prince and WB, it's hard to see how WB will be able to put unreleased bonus tracks on the remastered discs without Prince's approval and full co-operation. Doesn't he own all his unreleased stuff?

Well this exact article was posted a few weeks back on this very forum and hit with our typical skepticism. Who knows if it's true or not, could be one of those wishful things that has started to gain some steam, could be a leak... who the fuck really knows? When they were getting ready to fire up the third year of the club, they asked what our suggestions or wishes were and many people, myself included, asked for all previous club material on CD... here comes the Invasion... could be progress, no?

Here is where I start to say this is not unprecedented. Don't know if there are any other Motley Crue fans out there, but a few years back they did the exact same thing. They reissued every one of their albums with the liner notes, pictures and at least 4 new songs from that era on each CD. Some of their albums were not great movers , but they did it and were successful. It was great to get some of the leftovers that circulated on boots for years. I have to say, if this is true... big IF... then my wife is going to one pissed off gal next year. Think of the possibilities for poverty... whew!

Time will tell my friends... in the interim... I'm really bored!
