Gilles Peterson plays 'North'

Just listening to the BBC radio 1 Gilles Peterson show, and he played 'North'. It's in the background when he is interviewing Kindred.. Gilles Peterson rocks!

I have all the World Wide compilations plus the Journeys by DJ mix with Norman Jay. However Gilles kinda pisses me off. A bit poncey if U ask me. However he is a taste maker so must be respected along with his excellent Talkin' Loud label.

Yes, good to hear him played on the radio again. Just a shame Gilles and Kindred had to talk over it.

He actually mentioned N.E.W.S. on last week's show and was going to play a track. I remember he described the artwork as "shocking". LOL.

His show is always worth listening to.

Which Peterson compilations could anybody recommend to buy?

Id recommend the Journeys by DJ mix. U can get this singley but Id recommend the double album with a mix by Norman Jay. Id also recommend his double Incredible! compilation album. The Worldwide Vol.1 is good too. Although Volume 2 is my fave.

Also check out those bands on his Talkin' Loud label-4 Hero etc

I love his worldwide stuff - WW3 was a masterpiece!. Have to admit i find the incredible albums a bit too jazzy for my tastes. Am looking forward to the new GP05 album on trustthedj.com, which has some damn fine tracks on it, like Happy by Max sedgley, and Like rain by Alison Crockett.

Gilles is the DJ, but i really really like Benji B on BBC's 1xtra. He plays more hip hop in his sets, but is otherwise broadly like Gilles. Also, Patrick Forge on Kiss 100, who started out DJing with Gilles.. Plus of course norman Jay on Radio London..

I have DJed a few gigs with Patrick and Gilles in the early 90s... Gilles was surprisingly fresh while Patrick`s choices were simply boring.
Gilles used to play all over, but since he got married and became a father, he has mellowed out.

10 years? Damn. Bar Rumba is one of the places I have played with Gilles. Its my favorite joint in London. I love the set up and the crowd. the other joint would be Hamburg`s Mojo Club. They are going into their 14th anniversary this year.

Gettin old... sad

What's your DJ name, Soulpower, if that won't be blowing your secret identity?
