Am I the only one who likes Emancipation & Rave?

Seriously, I hear people all the ripping apart these albums. And I just wonder what people dont like about it. Emancipation has its weak spots, but songs like Somebody's Somebody and Face Down and Holy River? Great album. And Rave? ManOwar might be my favorite Prince track of the 90's. Other than the horrible Sheryl Crow cover, these 2 cds are what got be back interested in Prince. I guess what it boils down to is different people can relate to different songs. And the transition between Emancipation and Rave is something I can relate to..

I heart Rave. One of my favorites. I think some may not like it because he tried to go mainstream, I liked it though. Its actually what got me listening to his music again.

Some of my picks:

"Rave..."
"Love U But Don't Trust U Anymore"
"The Greatest Romance Ever Sold"
"Man o' War"
"Tangerine"
"Baby Knows"

Emancipation...I haven't really given it a chance yet, I guess. That's next on my agenda, tho.

peace!

I like both cd's too. I don't love Rave, but I think there are some very good songs on it. I think Emancipation is great, except for 3-4 songs.

Emancipation nod
Rave no no no!

Emancipation could've used better production and could have done without Betcha By Golly Wow, and LaLaLa... but that's a small bit of the total package and not too bad.
However, I can't get into the first 3 songs, that pseudo-reggae rhyming on Sun,Moon, and Stars or Silly Game on Rave. Wherever You Go is also a weak cut but listenable.

But isn't that another sign of Prince's talent?

His music covers a broad range of musical styles, and different styles appeal to different people.

Hence the endless debates on this forum!

Nah, you aren't the only one. I might be one of the only people who likes "The Human Body" and really doesn't like Disc II at all (save for one or two songs).

I was never a fan of Rave until I finally got the remix disc this year. I think I've listened to Rave IN2 more than I've listened to Rave Un2, NPS and TRC combined.

"The Human Body" rules. So does most of Disk 3; I think it's by far the best of the three in "Emancipation".

You must be on dope! The play on words in that little part is absolutely brilliant. "Bouncin on the summer spring and when you start to fall, You'll cum like the cold winter do in Montreal" Just brilliant

Ive said it before, and Ill say it again:

Emancipation was his last truly great album.

A little something 4 everyone. The only thing he has done since that I think is worthy of my attention 2 sit down and truly listen 2 it and pick it apart like I used 2 is TRC.

Emancipation could have done with a little editing here and there - and a much phatter production, but SOTT could have done with some editing...Parade could have been longer...Choas & Disorder could have done with being 11 songs shorter...TRC could have done without that stupid-assed monologue and The Wedding Feast etc etc...it's all relative at the end of the day. Those gripes aside, I personally like it a helluva lot. I liked the vibe he exhuded then - it was a good side of him 2 see.

Unfortunately however, that didnt last 2 long: shame really, though can't say I was surprised.
