How long will it be... before Prince does something musically interesting again? Now I don't mind interesting to the zealots who frequent this site, but to the general, music-listening public. Something that will make people dance or at least think. Something that will make people wonder where Prince has been for the last 15 years and not for some silly stunt like changing his name or absolving a marriage. I probably have time to slip into a coma, I just want to be sure.

When he climbs out of the Digital Garden that he has built around himself.
It wasn't for nothing that religion has been described as the opiate of the masses - and no one is immune to its soporific effects. *****************************************

Don't hold your breathe. TRC NEWS and Xpectation are very musically interesting. Even if its not your cup of tea they are interestingly constructed pieces of ART. All manner of good music and interesting work by other artists are ignored by the masses. Why should prince be any different. Most of the best music happens on the edges of culture not dead in the center. At a certain point the masses and the critics decided that prince was no longer relevant. So no matter what he puts out there will a lot of people (critics, ex-fans, consumers) who will sneer at it. Its the cool thing to do now.

i agree with all u say, very well put. everything you have said spung 2 mind, 4 me, as soon as i read this thread. but i think the thread means musically interesting to the masses and not the hardcore fans. u gotta agree trc/xpect/news r nothing if they r not interesting !but they only interest the people who listen and its only hardcore fans who are aware they exist remember ! i think the point being made was when is p gonna pull an ace ! like the most beautiful girl... he went from nowhere to no1 in the uk, with this track. if he pulled out another song like that it wouldnt b interesting 2 u and i ... but the masses ? yeah i think so !.

Prince has been making music that is absolutely infectuous. Every album has a track that'll keep ya moving. Now if the radio would just play it, then the people will know. Until then, he's ours. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

Be honest. There is nothing at all musically interesting, challenging, innovative, original or complex in his recent work. The majority of people here who like it like it because it is Prince and it is something different for him. The majority of people fawning over N.E.W.S. or Xpectation would mock it endlessly if the same material was released by Yanni. Prince's new pseudo-jazz is likely going to erode his ever-dwindling fanbase even further...those who manage to stay awake through it. N.E.W.S. is no more "art" than When Doves Cry. Just because you take away vocals doesn't increase its artistic merit. With regard to Prince's music being "infectious" and radio keeping it a secret from the world by choosing not to play him, they're saying "Take him, he's yours." If released to the masses, the only thing his recent output will inspire is mass cases of narcolepsy. It's not like he's some undiscovered talent. No one else WANTS to hear him.

I don't care who doesn't find his work interesting. I do find it interesting and complex. And yes NEWS is a work of art, Just as "When does cry" is too. I mean Art in that the creator is following his muse as opposed to following a trend or getting the hot rapper or producer of the day to work on it. I'm sorry but NEWS moves me sorry it doesn't move u too. I truly don't see many other performers who have acheived popular success progressing to something like NEWS. It is Jazz, funk, world, ambient, easy listening all in one "sinonemous motion" (sp.). I'm not a huge fan of classical music but i can listen to a composition and see all the work involved. NEWS is beyond most performers.Could andre 3000, beyonce, d'angelo (u plug in a name) do NEWS. No Prince is there in a million ways. Those who are bored with it. Don't really appreciate all the talents that prince possesses. Most on this site really have a particular Prince that they like. Weather its a certain era, or genre, or band. They can only really appreciate that niche. I see the total picture. And the total picture is genuis. peace.

Just because you take away vocals doesn't increase its artistic merit. and if the vocals are a bunch of religious mumbo-jumbo, they certainly don't add much With regard to Prince's music being "infectious" and radio keeping it a secret from the world by choosing not to play him, they're saying "Take him, he's yours." Let's face it, the main draw is his live shows. He's become an oldies act, just like the Stones, Dylan, McCartney, etc. , *****************************************
