"The Future" was a single in the U.K.

I don't think it's the "worst" but I've never been crazy about "Gett Off."

All terrible choices... I also think that Warners should have skipped releasing "Thunder" as a single in the U.K. and released "Insatiable" like in the U.S. I think that "Insatiable" would have done well on Urban radio stations here, whereas I don't remember "Thunder" being played anywhere! How many more people would have bought Emancipation if he'd released the following as singles: 01) Sleep Around b/w Somebody's Somebody; 02) Soul Sanctuary b/w In This Bed Eye Scream; 03) The Love We Make b/w My Computer; 04) Friend, Sister, Lover, Mother/Wife b/w Face Down. No Offence but those are some of the worst choices for singles ive ever seen. My skin would've crawled if hed released Sleep around as the first single. The Holy River was the only obvious choice for a single on the album. The rest of the stuff was mediocore. The Love We Make would've been okay, and Jam Of the Year might have worked, but the whole problem with Emancipation was that there wasn't enough stand out songs to make it work. There was a lot of good stuff on there, but none that would motivate me to buy it...except The Holy River.

Agreed.I think, beginning with the 'Parade' album,he began choosing wrong singles,in most cases.Songs like "Glam Slam","New Power Generation","If I Was Your Girlfriend" and "The Morning Papers" were poor choices for singles. But I don't know if it was him,or Warners who had the final say.

It did very poorly in the U.S.,peaking at Number 87 if I'm not mistaken (or was it 78?).Understandably,most radio stations were afraid to play it,and Prince didn't dare make a video for it...lol

I also think Gold is a bit on the crap side. Especially the edited 4 radio version.

A UK no.10. But yeah, a bit too poppy and er...'80's sounding.

It's weird but some of these songs mentioned are my favorites. That's really interesting. But I HATE (and I don't know the real title of the song) but I think it is called "Courtin' Time".
I skip that song everytime it comes up on the CD. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Some of y'all are gonna think I'm insane for saying this, but I think it was a mistake to release "Do Me Baby" as a single. The third single from 'Controversy' should have been "Private Joy",a song that was strong enough to have even been the FIRST single.

I skip that song everytime it comes up on the CD. But, the question isn't whether or not a song is good or not, but if it would make an impact on the charts and the record-buying public!! Just like If I Was Your Girlfriend, as others have mentioned, is an excellent masterpiece, but to release as a single to get max airplay, it just wasn't going to happen. I think it's a little more about good business sense than about what's actually just good.

In my area, the song "Sexy Mf" was played a few times on our R&B station, but they did a really clumsy edit, the chorus sounded like this... "come here baby...yeah...you sexy mutha mutha mutha... come here baby...yeah...you sexy mutha mutha mutha" it sounded ridiculous!

I would have picked these,in this order... *"I Hate U" *"319" *"Shy" *"Gold" I thought I hate u was a terrible choice for a single. Its a boring slow jam. Id've had: TMBGITW Dolphin Gold Endorphine Machine In general, bad single choices : Paisley Park (1985) - This was released before Raspberry Beret in the UK (WTF???) Gett Off (1991)- I love this song, but its not a first single choice (even though it did well in the UK) Letitgo (1994) - I thought Space was much better than this. I Hate U (1995) - Still sends me to sleep now. Betcha By Golly Wow (1996) - Since when did Prince release covers as singles? The One (1998) - Nice enough song, but again its just a slow jam, Come On was much better. The Greatest Romance Ever Sold (1999) - Too slow again, doesnt grab the listener. I guess Prince has never been good at choosing lead singles, but then again, hes also had some of the greatest: I Wanna Be Your Lover Controversy 1999 When Doves Cry Raspberry Beret Kiss Sign O The Times Alphabet St

I don't hate you baby. What you said was utter foolishness...but I don't hate you. Do me baby is the funkiest teenage dry hump song ever (besides international lover). When it comes to funk, i am junkie
