I agree there, that was below par, although I loved the B-side.

Some of your answers are crazy.

Greates Romance was a great song and a great single...it just had zero promotion and sold poorly. Sales to me do not make a good single.

Also, I Hate U is Prince's last GREAT single. One of those songs that sounded like nothing else on the radio. Truly original that was a great intro to The Gold Experience. That album died with Gold being released as the 2nd single. Endorphinemachine should have been up to bat next.

I have to say for me, My Name is Prince & Sexy MF were both terrible singles. They both were so disappointing when I 1st heard them. Sexy MF grew on me a bit...but I still hate My Name is Prince with a passion.

Glam Slam

Not a terrible album track (though probably the weakest on Lovesexy), but a horrible choice for a single.

"If I was Your GirlFriend"

One of my favorite Prince songs ever from my Favorite LP ever.

But this was a bad song to release in 1987 for marketing reasons. The LP would have much bigger had he released "Strange Relationship" or "Hot Thing" in it's place to follow up the title song. 1987 radio could not play such an explicit song back then. Now it would be a shoe in on radio.

Sorry; but I've always hated "Little Red Corvette" and "Rasberry Beret"...Okay, I'm going to get my helmet and take cover now boxed Now, I won't be seriously injured by all the rocks that are about to be thrown at me. lol I liked "The Greatest Romance"; but that re-mix with EVE was crap.

Agreed.I really love this song, but it was a weird choice for a single. There was no way that radio could embrace a song like this, and the album started tumbling down the charts when this was the single. Not surprisingly, the album began moving back up the charts when "U Got The Look" became a single.I really think that "Housequake" should have been the second single (after the title track).

Exactly."Glam Slam" is a great album track, but it's a bad choice for a single. To this day,it baffles me why Prince didn't choose the kickass title track for a second single. That's a powerful uptempo song that was just begging to be released!

Alot of you have chosen "TGRES" as the worst single and I have to agree. It's not a bad song, but it was a bad choice for the first single. It's simply too slow, too mediocre, and not terribly exciting.I think the only reason it was chosen is because of it's similarity to "TMBGITW".Clive Davis obviously felt that it could be a big hit, just like the previous song.

A better, stronger first single from 'Rave' would have been "So Far,So Pleased".Another missed opportunity.

"New Power Generation" (1990)

This is a very weak song from a less-than-thrilling album.Prince should have released the rocking "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" instead.

lol It's so poor that I always forget it was even released as a single.

lol...yeah,this song was a total bomb as a single. In fact, the Tevin Campbell track ("Round and Round") became a bigger hit than "NPG".

Hmmm,"Partyman" is another single that I have mixed feelings about.I like the song, but I wonder if "The Future" or "Trust" would have made better singles.

(Sorry. Only UK'ers of a certain age will get).

For me it has to be either Man O' War, Arms Of Orion, or TMBGITW.

This thread truly proves that ones persons garbage is anothers treasure.

To me the following are unlistenable

Arms of Orion
My Name Is Prince (Please do not ever ever rap again)
BBGW (Great song, but a cover?)

And in contrast, I LOVE
Anotherhole...
Money Don't Matter
LetitGo

Prince really did not choose his singles well after 1987 or so (exception being Diamonds and Pearls album). He has had a couple of potential hits on each album he's released (almost) and he's usually picked songs that are either mediocre or totally uncommercial...
