But, while I want him to go back to rock now, I don't know if he has the lyrics for it. Rock songs can be pretty deep. It's just man and his most furious emotions. That's why I like rock. It's not just about dancing and a good beat

I am so serious. See on the surface, rock songs look like throwaway drug-induced creations. But you have to interpret. Seriously.
No.
Don't laugh.

OMG! Javed, thank for this topic on retro funk hell.

I hate funk. It sounds like a bunch of 70s shit. People talk a lot about funk on this board, and I've always been amazed at how much it's loved. It even won the poll a few months ago.

Listen. the first Prince song that drove me mad was Little Red Corvette. (... well .. I was mad for I wanna be your lover but I was 8 and thought it was a woman singing so that doesn't count.)

Get rid of 'da funk'? Hell yeah! Go Rock!

That's what I wanna hear.

All I got for my rock jones is 1999, Purple Rain, Chaos and Disorder and a few scattered singles.

Now, I've loved Prince's entire catalog from For You to Batman, without hesitation.

I liked it because the sound (R&B-infused rock-plus) could not be categorized and sounded like the blending of cultures.

After he started adding all these funk and rap people to his entourage he sound slowly began to morph (I still cringe during stupid songs on Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol, even though I like the latter two albums).

Now, I just cringe all the time at this new stuff. I hate most of it (not all.)

I miss the fuckin' Revolution! Like someone said before in another post, I want The Revolution Reloaded!

P.S. Ya'll know you miss the oww-oo-wah!

disbelief Such nastiness!

Seriously, funk is where it's at when it comes to Prince. How can you say that "Lady Cab Driver" isn't deep?

Now, let's not be mean to those who don't like funk. There's no rule that says that anyone has to. However, telling Prince to get rid of funk is like telling the pope to give up the church. Funk is Prince's bread and butter.

are did you ever see the movie?

That's how I look at jazz-music ... meaningless and cold
just showing off the technical talents ...

This thread is a toll-free toilet
Your mouth a neurological asshole
And psychologically speaking
You're in a state of mental diarrhea
Talking shit a mile a minute
Or in a state of constipated notions
Can't think of nothin' but shit
And in this world of
Stinky futures, shitty memories and
Constipated 19 now-nows
Emerges from the hiney of your head
The doo doo chasers, headbang
The Promentalshitbackwashpsychosisenemasquad dancing jig

just to set the record str8, i LOVE funk, i'm just learning to play funk on my guitar [didn't think it would be THAT hard!] , i love all classic funk and above all else i adore Prince Funk. The funk at the ONA shows and aftershows was SOOO funky it smelled!. However i have to say that i am bored of Prince recording funk by numbers, NME put it perfectly. Prince has been doing this retro funk thing for too long now and its time to do something more radical for his next cd. Wouldn't it be great if the next single was , dare i say it, like the old days where the lead off single was always different to anything else yet accessible to everyone. The annoying thing is that if you look at the NPGMC downloads alone he could easily assemble a killer 10 track cd [NO filler] from that lot, yet his poor choices have let potential classics to wane. I truly hope that his next cd has that P factor to it.
