More about Las Vegas DVD

I have just watched the DVD, and I have come to some conclusions:

1. Prince plays guitar better than ever. Don't you think in the last years he has improved his technique? I'm talking about for example the rock of Whole Lotta love, the jazz of Strolling or the midtempo Push & Pull. This "Prince guitarist" is the best version I have seen.

2. It's true that the Revolution, the NPG (1993-95) or the band of 1987-89 tours are in our heart. but in my opinion the musicians who are now playing with him make his best band.

3. Shelia E. is still beautiful, and it's a pleasure to see her playing. But what about John Blackwell? This man is superb.

4. And finally, I LOVE THE NEW DIRECTIONS IN MUSIC when we talk about to mix jazz, funk, rock and soul, with the jazz background.

What do you think?

ive always thought he was a pretty awsome guitarist, i was in the front row a couple of nights on the gold tour. but 4 me he comes in2 his own guitar wise in the aftershow mode
2 particular aftershows stand out the forum london 93 fantastic blues/honky tonk woman/bambi etc.

last years aftershow at the marquee london he was unbelievable on guitar we certainly had a good view "front row" joy in repitition/sott etc

i swear both his hands were a "blur" my girlfriend said 2 me "i knew he was good on guitar but, i didnt realise he was 1 of the very best"

i reckon up close and personal p takes a bit o beating

YEAH ?

He didn't play Joy In Repetition at The New Marquee on October 6 (am). He had played it towards the end of the show at the London Apollo, (but he didn't play a guitar solo - allowing Maceo to solo instead.)
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

hes playing is maybe better than ever, yeah. but i kinda think whole lotta love on the dvd was lame compared to what he did with it when i saw him in concert. strolling was really nice yeah, but push and pull - nikka does it much beter on her own than how prince does. prince made it into an AOR song, like hes been doing with dolphin recently.

2. It's true that the Revolution, the NPG (1993-95) or the band of 1987-89 tours are in our heart. but in my opinion the musicians who are now playing with him make his best band.

theyre technically excellent but they dont have much distinctiveness. blackwell can hit a million tom toms at a speed of 3958 hits per minute but thats just typical glitzy showboating. renato can play great keys (even if he does play a fake flute and harmonica via keyboard which is kinda corny) but its like technical profiency over personality. watch 'the ride' with sheila e playing, shes a lot more distinctive as a drummer than john, thats why i like her more.

3. Shelia E. is still beautiful, and it's a pleasure to see her playing. But what about John Blackwell? This man is superb.

sheilas better, has more of her own style (and is prettier).

4. And finally, I LOVE THE NEW DIRECTIONS IN MUSIC when we talk about to mix jazz, funk, rock and soul, with the jazz background.

dunno. he did more interestng things with jazz on the 86/87 and slightly less so but on the 88 tour too. now its like hes trying to go totally full-on with the jazz stuff but its not nearly as interesting. a lot of that stuff has been done better by others. i suppose you could say its just good music and on TRC it was, but as far as the xpectation and news albums, its not that special. if it was anyone else, it would probably sound like anyone else on smooth jazz radio. i dont think its one of his greatest strengths.
