The answer is very simple.

If you search on the ASCAP or Library of Congress Copyright search databases against song titles e.g. 'Sometimes It Snows In April', you are provided with details of all of the writers, authors etc who have a registered interest on that database. You will notice that the details I quoted where against song title.

But if you search against the name of a person e.g. 'Wendy Melvoin', you will only see what her name is registered against and not necessarily indicating that others share that claim, unless you search further.

Just a case of using search engines intelligently.
