Detroit Radio Reports: Secret Universal/NPG Records Deal Listening to FM Radio 105.9 Detroit JAMZ...and reported was some secret record deal inked by Prince and Npg records -That Universal Music Group, whom the artist signed a publishing deal with sometime ago, will now allow UMG to distribute and promote his next album featuring the song 'Musicology'.
The Deal wasn't stated in detail, thou insiders are saying Prince will own his master recordings that he's been fighting for, over 10 years now in the year 2004! Prince recently completed a video shoot in L.A., as we all know this, and is expected to release an album thats a throw back to the 80's, the artist is using the same elements and formula's that caught the music buying public in the first place. The DJ wouldn't say more, but she was very excited to see Prince release new music on a major again, and never thought she would have the opportunity to play a slammin new prince joint ever again on her radio show...so this gives her hope, since she's a very big fan of his and listed his ONA-Live set as a must have!!! So atleast a buzz has started elsewhere other than the internet. | |

Why copy the old sound? Do a great new album, ya purple fairy. All you others say Hell Yea!! | |

I don't think he's copying his past.
Just giving the masses what they want from him, another funky purple PRINCE production. Prince has released some great jazzy funk/gospel music within the past few years and now that he's gotten that out of his system, I do believe the music will sound simular to the Minneapolis sound of the 80's , but with Prince, it will be fresh and exciting, daring and out of this world still! So lets just sit back and watch Prince as he gives the ppl what they need in times of disposable music as Carson Daly once said to the artist! This is the reason we love PRINCE, he gave us PURPLE! He gave us FUNK, and he gave us HIP! Prince old or new, he will give us the music once again! but once again not everyone will be pleased with what he's done after 87'. I know I will thou | |

He can't give us purple anymore...he ain't nasty like he used to be...he only ever gave of his best when he was pissed off. He's in a happy place right now...the music reflects this, technically wonderful, no-way challenging.
We need Spooky and Camille to fight again for him to be really funky! | |

--- Take a look around no one is buying rock n roll. The public wants funk. Are you on dope? Listen to the radio, Rock is HUGE right now. --- The top ten pop songs are all Rap this week for the first time. I am not saying Rap is better than rock. I am not a Rap fan but, Rap is the new pop music. In addition, no one is going to buy a rock album from a black guy today. | |

color has nothing to do with music laura!
Blk, blue or burnt orange! Prince is an artist 2nd. A Human First, his color has nothing to do with selling music! Rap can kiss my ass! | |

It seems that PRINCE is not throw back 2 the 80's with the same elements & formulas Because the first song Musicology from his new album, from what i heard sounds like a retro song from 70's...so...this is strange! | |

However, it doesn't change the fact that bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn, yada yada yada are selling a ton of records. All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. Erika Byduhs (sp) new album, World Wide Underground gives you some elements of the funk - well its called New Funk. Angie Stone's Mahogony Soul provides that 70's laybak and jam funk. God save the Queen if Prince slaps it at us. We need the funk, even if t is heavy with the guitar. _________________________________________

FUNK will NEVER be played out when it's done RIGHT! I agree but rock and roll will never die. Let's not forget Prince is really a FUNK-ROCK musician in his roots. | |

Uh...did you ever hear of Lenny Kravitz? But seriously, this is all great news! 2004 could be a very good year for Prince and his fans. And it will be the 20th anniversary of 'Purple Rain',so his profile will be higher than ever. | |

If its true then great but I wonder with the current US TOP 10 being dominated by rubbish R&B will he be tempted down the Emancipation route again?. Lets hope he stays true and resists. | |

lol. he needs to do a rock album. rock is back now, supposedly, prince needs to pull his finger out and show people (ie people who dont visit this site) that he can rock as hard as anyone. plus as far as black artists doing rock, there are very few in the maintstream - it would be nice to see more. i cant think of too many that are selling a whole lot of records. i mean lenny, enjoyable as he can be, doesnt exactly have the greatest rep. he doesnt have many ideas of his own either, lol. in fairness though, you could probably say the same for the strokes and co. | |

Okay,maybe I'm a bit cautiously optimistic...lol...but I think 2004 could be a great year,if he doesn't screw things up A new CD...he will have his master recordings...a tour...20th anniversary of 'Purple Rain'...possibly remastered CDs?...wow! | |

I'm a little confused. How can prince own his masters next year, if Warners owns them? Does UMG own Warners? | |
