MTV dont really 'break' new artists unless they have tons of money thrown at them, as far as i know. that usually holds true, apart from very few exceptions.

btw, i cant believe that even prince's video treatments are written in his signature '2' 'u' and 'fonky' prose. amazing.

i pray this song is good - i dont wanna be dissapointed again. unless it makes people say 'wow, hes back!' it will probably be another lukewarm comeback. its odd that there hasnt been anything written about him signing to universal in the press so i wonder how true it all is.

What people fell to realize is that Prince's Music Videos of late don't get much play because he didnt have the major backing to pay out money for airplay...Prince is with a major label now that will back him and pay the right amounts of money to get heavy rotation...Mtv will play his videos if they see money...just like every other video played its all about money and Prince isn't willing to pay tons and tons of money for a music video out of his own pocket, he'd probably go broke.

So with Universal backing him, he will have a hit music video and they will pay for the song to spin on radio also.

So Mtv will most likely make a big deal of this video.
Stupid comments about Mtv playing his video once is ridiculous, its not because Prince hates MTV, that they won't show his videos, its because it takes money these days to show an artist video...they don't show crap videos by Pink and Britney, because they like them, its all because of dollar signs!

How about you getting a clue and realising that MTV had a great amount of support for Prince in 1995, playing plenty of the videos for his independent projects. Like "Dolphin": used to launch VH-1 in Europe. Or the TWO SPECIALS in January 1996. Etc.

---
That was MTV Europe not MTV in America. I have never seen any of Prince videos from his independent projects on MTV in America. You need to get a clue. If you are not with a major label you do not get the exposure on MTV or radio.

No. The video probably will, for some reason reminds me of that Michal Jackson video with Macauly Culkin. Hope the song is good though. Heard someone say there's a "Hip Hop" feel; do you mean there's rapping or just a hip hop vibe, similar Erikah Badu and D'Angelo?

Some of that video actually sounds like John L. and Prince. Like the kid getting put up on stage like when John put Prince on stage at a James Brown show. And John was ALWAYS dressed pretty sharp. And other parts sounds like the My Name is Prince video. Let's just hope the song is hot.

I was there also, Member of the LA Bump Squad and I really grooved to that song...
I actually walked away with the beat in my head, & found myself hearing the words to Return of the Bump Squad in my head ... I thought that was strange, but I guess that's what the beat reminded me of..
Now - if you havent heard that song - you're really missing it - go find the Exodus CD right now!!
Anyways - Prince is the Man, right?! isnt' that why you are here on this website, reading this message right now??
You will LOVE the song - trust me!!!

Thanks 4Jamiestarr far that script info - sounds alot like what we saw being filmed... I CAN'T WAIT to have the CD jammin in my car !!!

Well, it's not like "Hey Ya" was an original concept. Many artists have made retro videos very similar to that one in the past from Billy Joel to Nirvana.

So they didn't show "Dolphin"? Or "Love Sign"? Or "Pussy Control" on the VH1 fashion awards? They didn't show TMBGITW? Didn't show an hour-long special of unreleased music in 1994? Or am I to believe that WB "paid" for this?

Did EMI pay for the Emancipation promotion on MTV?

MTV doesn't care about Prince because NOBODY cares about Prince, and that's because he's released crappy album after crappy album.

And it certainly doesn't help that Prince stops caring about MTV once he thinks he doesn't need them anymore.

Well well, what do we learn? A concert ticket with a free record for ONE DOLLAR??? No way. We all know that that´s just not Prince´s style. Why does he lie in his videos? In real life, the small boy would never get the chance to see Prince play, because he couldn´t afford the 150 $ hrmph

Didn't see the show, haven't a clue what it was about. Fashion? On VH1? If it was a show of their own making then it was presumably their choice to show Prince songs and they would have paid royalyties to him. If it was a promotional showcase for Prince then whover made it would have paid VH1 to have it aired, unless they made it themselves, but as you say, it's unlikely anyone (seemingly including Prince) would pay to put together a Prince showcase.

Did EMI pay for the Emancipation promotion on MTV?

If Emancipation was on EMI then yes, they probably did. If not, then Paisley Park, Prince himself, some rich eccentric fan... One thing is for sure though, MTV did NOT put it on out of the kindness of their hearts. Let there be no doubt that somebody paid for it.

True, true, MTV does not care about Prince, or Beyonce or Madonna, or MJ, or anybody else for that matter. They do care about their money though. They run a play list, exactly the same as radio stations, $$$ gets light rotation, $$$ gets medium, and $$$ gets heavy. If Prince popped along to MTV with a big $$$ cheque, and said he wanted "North" on heavy rotation, guess what you'd soon be sick to the teeth of seeing on MTV?

Point is, MTV have never supported Prince or anybody else because they like them or think they are worthy of promotion. They do so only because they are paid to.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I don't understand why compare Andre 3000 with this song 2 Prince, Because when i'm listening 2 this > I'm thinking 2 myself >>This is a song IN RICK JAMES STYLE Not PRINCE!!

But it's a cool clip & song 2!
