rave u 2 the joy fantastic or high. i am led to believe that p scrapped high and later released rave.

"High" was to be released after "Rave." I love "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" but only marginally enjoy "High." | |

Golden Parachute is one of the slinkiest Prince songs ever. Makes me wanna curl up on a faux bearskin rug and get drunk. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I think this period was the most direction-less period of princes career. He was still writing some good songs, but his albums lacked passion and focus. It was like his post-warners-break-up hangover.
For me, Rave is much better than High. Rave has I Love U But I Dont Trust U on it, and that is one of his best songs for years. It also has Pretty man, and The Sun The Moon & Stars, which are both excellent. High has some good songs, but lacks any of the high points that Rave had (and also the low points...Hot Wit U...yuk). Prince was right not to release High...it wouldve just been a Rave part II. The Rainbow Children was a much better follow up. The problem with both Rave and High is that they sound like contrived attempts to be hip and commercial, whereas we all know Prince is much better when following his instincts. | |

uhm, i do think those were prince's instincts of that time. feeling all certain that the album would get him back into the spotlight w/ the help of clive davis. when it failed it must've struck him hard. result: npgmc was born. his own world in which he would always be on top. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
