When Doves Cry

Last night I played Neon Redenzous (sp) for the first time, annd I thought what a great CD. Every track is just awesome, and after listening to When Doves Cry I was thinking why he doesn't play that song anymore. The song lasts for 10 minutes, and I just wish he would play it exactly like that in concert. The song has everything, guitar solo by Wendy, Prince's screaming, and then the band just jamming, great stuff!! Prince if you read this thread, play this song again!!!
What does everyone else reckon on this bootleg, I give it 10 out of 10!! & I didn't even mention Purple Rain or Noon Rendenzous!!!

For one, I think that When Doves Cry is one those songs that sounds great in the studio, but is difficult to pull off in a live setting. Just my own personal opinion of course, but I've never been impressed with any live version of the song. It sounds like Prince can never quite figure out how to arrange the song for a live performance. But... maybe that will change with the talent that he has in his current band.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Prince thinks the song is worthy of resurrection.

I hope so. It's one of his finest ever tunes.

I don't think that song works live. I love the rehearsals of him playing it and the extra jamming part in the live and rehearsals versions, but its hard to get any real passion into the lyrics because he's singing in a lower octave. Its a great heartbreak song nonetheless smile

What are y'all talking about???

When Doves Cry is aweosme live. Especially the extension (which does have a bass part) which debuted on the Purple Rain tour.

Sheila E. did it live at House of Blues in LA and she took that arrangement and made it even cooler and jazzier... where the main hook wasn't even used that much which made it less repetitive.

Good example of song that needs some horns to flesh it out. Especially some trombone solos down on the bottom!

Where's Greg Boyer on this?
