Without any doubt:

the DIRTY MIND - era is the best era!

Nothing comes even close to it

Funk / Rock is about Rebellion ...
and that's the era that Prince had Rebellion, Heart & Soul

I think your age can be reflected in this as well.

Born in 72 so when I was 12- 16 (84 - 88)I was absulutely into the Prince era! I got into Prince a little to late to go see him in concert but Pruple Rain, and Parade still make me smile more than any other era.

I like all the different era's but I gotta say that seeing Prince in the news, papers, in magazines all the time, live shows on TV and constant coverage. He couldn't sneeze without it being big news.

Alot of people forget Prince was as big a superstar as he was. To me he still is but to people these days, they just don't realize he truly has seen the top!

He still is at the top for me!

If we talk about music, it's difficult, each era have been incredible (electronic funk 1978-1982, pop 1984-86, maturity 1987-1990, NPG 1991-1996, freedom 1996-2000), new directions in music (2002 til now).
The period 1991-1996 was special to me because of my age.
But if I have to chose a period becuase of musical quality, it's doubtless: new directions in music.

It's strange that although my favorite album is 1999 my favorite era was 93-95 when I first got into P. (It's not an age thing because I was born in '74) My favorite Prince songs come from this era. Shhh!, I hate U, Dinner With Delores, Dolphin, I Like it There, Pheromone, etc. are some of those. I guess it was the production and the band at that time-- and it was still fun. He's back to the great music but it's not as fun at the moment. However, I understand that it's a journey and he has to keep moving along.

My choice would be from 1980 to 1988 when he wasn't paying attention to what everyone else was doing.

87-88
Lovesexy is genius. The tour was unbelievable.

That said, it had taken 78-86 for Prince to get to 87-88...so maybe there was something in those years too!
