I like the horns, but could be happy with a little less of them. Also, the constant introductions of who's blowin, I only need to hear "Maceo blow your horn" (etc) a couple of times. To me...more than that is overkill.

I think when he added horns to his sound in 86-87, that was the best decision Prince ever made with his music. It just makes his music sound more sophisticated. Pop music nowadays features very few horns, and I'm glad Prince chooses to spotlight those instruments in his work.

That said, there have been tours where I missed the sound of the horns, and then the latest tour where maybe- just maybe there was a tad too much horn sound. He should balance it out and play more guitar solos on the next tour and just a tad less soloing on horns. I think Prince is just more of a bandleader these days, he likes to let others show their stuff and not do everything himself. That's to his credit. I don't hear anything "Vegasy" about that- what would be far worse would be to give us the same old tour well into his fifties where he is just going through the motions playing the same old hits, with little variety and not challenging himself at all.

Bring back the synths, I say.

I've never been big on horns, but I do love them at times, like in "Girls and Boys."

For synth sounds. Not for horns. I can name countless brilliant horn riffs by Prince from '86-'88 and even after. The synth horn sound is pretty limited and not even used that much by him.

I really can't complain about the horns. They give Prince's sound a classic soul/funk effect reminiscent of JB. I wish he did some ska and use the horns for that. By the way, I thought Eric Leeds & Atlanta Bliss were his best horn section.

i like horns but its way too much.
wouldn't it b cool if he throw horns away and
go for more raw sound like he did in 1980-1984 period?

um, no

but it would be cool if he had a little showdown styled thang with his geetar and the horn section!

Good thing none of us are Prince. Leave the arrangements and the playing to the professionals. Just listen and appreciate.
