no horns only on purple rain, raspberry berret and take me with you.
i like horns but its way too much.
wouldn't it b cool if he throw horns away and
go for more raw sound like he did in 1980-1984 period?

horns are great. he uses them to great effect and writes great parts.

80-84 was THEN. he has to move on.

But I DO think he holds back on guitar, mmm hmmm.

Yeah, I also didn't care for the horns. But I guess it's because I'm a stuck-in-1984-where-prince-is-concerned-asshole (I've been called something like that since being here).

I used to hate the horns years ago, but now I love them. But I agree he should play more guitar - and I mean play, not mess about making cool noises with effects (yes I know that can be considered playing but it gets tiresome).

I always tought that the horn sound, as a sound is ugly. It's reminds me of clowns and circus. Fo FO FOooo.

:/

i admire the way sax players improvise and all this shit. But it's not among the most beautiful sounds that i ever heard.

bass and brass :l

guitar, piano, violin :~

Ok, I disagree with a lot of you. Horns are great. Other thing is if Prince must play more guitar, if he must combine songs with horns and songs without them. Ok, this is another debate.
Horns are the sound of funk. To listen to Maceo, Candy and Greg is an absolute pleasure.

I like some horns, Eric and Atlanta and the NPG hornz were perfect. The last two tours have had WAAAY too much horn for my taste. I like the horn lines but the solos get to be boring for me when I know the greatest guitar player in the world is standing there watching.

You gotta be confused.
Mace and Greg are amongst the greatest hornplayers in Funk, while Prince by far isnt the greatest guitar player in the world.

Predictably those (of us) who seem to be more into Funk and Jazz like the horns... like me!
That has been the beauty of the last touring, ... please don't like Prince renege on his "real music played by real musicians" stance and go to that synth/computer sound, PRINCE IF YOU ARE LISTENING: THE HORNS ARE BEAUTIFUL...
-Soulpower: some would argue that Prince is hugely underated as a guitar player...
oh and Everlastingnow: if Prince is standing back then maybe it's because that horn sound is great...
I agree too that Maceo and Greg are the best part of the boxed set...

I know that in general he is underrated.
But on this site, he is way overrated. To call him "the greatest guitar player in the world" is laughable.

Yea I agree, the real horns sound too VEGASY to me. Especially on the new DVD when he uses horns on "Pop Life" instead of those cool violins that are on the songs. A cool synth sound would have sounded much better that that marching band feel he got from the real horns...
