I chose to believe that the lyrics were 'misunderstood'. I don't.

It would be good if Prince made it a bit clearer what his views are... or not - depending on what they are.
But - hey - I liked the lyrics in Reflection!

I think his views are basically in line with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I think his views are basically in line with the Jehovah's Witnesses. I have to admit that, when they've come round + knocked on my door, I've never left the door open long enough to actually find out what they believe.

Then all you've gotta do is read the lyrics to TRC. Of course, there's more to it than that. But it's pretty much all there in a nutshell.

Why do you think it's shit? The lyrics (bordering on racist, sexist and homophobic) and that awful narration. The songs are pretty tuneless and dull. And I don't like the pseudo jazz elements either. That's why. Yeah, I hate jazz, myself... And this fool calls me an idiot. Anyone who hates jazz is going to have a very hard time with Prince beyond his poppy material. U sir have revealed yourself. I myself am not a great fan of certain genres of music but would never say i hate any particular type of music. "Hate" is the sign of a closed mind. Many here seem to really get defensive when questioned about their motivations for being so connected to an Artist that they have no problem denegrating any chance they get. Is it a love/hate situation? They loved Prince so much back in the day that now since they can't still get into his music that love turns into rage/hate toward the object of their former affection. Its really quite twisted. I know i'm not the only one who see's that.

Well to be honest, I skimmed through the tracks so fast, I may have overlooked a few. By the time I got that one, I was so used to Prince making crap, I expected it to be. I really have no idea why I bought it but I gave it away. Get that CD again and listen to "Emale"

There were no 'stand-out' tracks - i.e. obvious singles that would sell bucket-loads (like TMBGITW). But there's good stuff on there if you persevere. Joint 2 Joint is cool.

I realize SOME of it (not liking new stuff) could be on my end. I'll have to see. The stuff from Lovesexy and before, although I listed a couple of songs, I didn't hate the rest of the CD. From the symbol, forward, I started hating it.

McWatson,
I implore you to get a copy of the Gold Experience immediately off E Bay! This was my favorite album of his in the 90s. If it doesn't restore your faith in Prince's work post Lovesexy, nothing will...

I can understand that Mcwatson likes the "Pop Prince" image more than the "Preaching Prince" image. Honestly, I liked the "Pop Prince" image more too; but music-wise, I like alot of his new stuff more than some of the more popular oldies. There is a difference between a casual fan, a dedicated fan, and a Fanatic. I like Prince enough to buy almost all his albums; because I always manage to find a song or two that I like on each of them, even TRC. I like D'Angelo; but I don't buy his albums; I just download the songs that I like. I'm a casual fan of D'Angelo and many other artists. But, I'm a fan of Prince, not a fanatic. To be completely honest, I never liked some of his old hits, ie "Raspberry Beret" and "Little Red Corvette"; and I hated "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" (his version and Alicia Keys' version too) and a couple others. Sorry, but these songs just don't do much for me. [This message was edited Thu Oct 9 11:41:45 PDT 2003 by estelle1981] SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. "WYNTER SKYE"

Some of the most beautiful songs are on those cd's... I agree. Emancipation had some good songs on it. I really like Disc 1 the most. "Somebody's Somebody", "White Mansion", and "In This Bed Scream" are my favorites. The other two discs were good also; great re-make of "One of Us" on Disc 3. Plus "The Gold Experience" has some great songs on it also. How could you not jam to "Pussy Control" and be somewhat moved by "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"? "SHHH" is also really good and can't forget my Favorite " Hate You"(even though the Maxi single extended version is better than the album version IMO). Mcwatson, Get the Gold Experience off of Ebay and the Maxi Single for " Hate You" also. Great songs. SPREAD LOVE UNTIL THE SUN'S FINAL RISE--The Duality a.k.a. "WYNTER SKYE"
