Maybe they're keeping their cards close to their chest.

Maybe before the event they say "No DVD", which u think to yourself "Well, then If I don't go I will Miss out", then guess what, It gets filmed, and because u had such a great time going, u decide to fork out the money 4 the dvd as well! - That's good marketing!

They could raise a whole lot more $ if they filmed it as a DVD, or release the concert as a CD set.

If they don't, the bootleggers will.

And bootleggers, whatever money u make from the recordings, do the right thing and 4ward on the money to Shelia's charity!

That sounds pretty genuine, unfortunately. I'm sure a lotta the folks participating belong to several different labels, and it would be logistical hell to squeeze all those different contractual obligations into one product, even if all the proceeds go to charity. Bummer.

Waaah???!

They're insane!

OK, it says *1st annual* Family Jamm, but I doubt any subsequent shows will have such a fantastic line-up, you know how these nostalgia reunion tours go, they're over by #2, it'll be Tyka Nelson, Dale Bozio and Good Question next time.

A DVD would help the charity, and give the international fans who can't get to the event a chance to see the show.

I'm sure the problem with a DVD is the legal clearances they'd need for all the songs.

Specifically, you-know-who (P) is the copyright holder for probably 90% of the songs they are going to play (if not more).

There was a lengthy discussion on another thread about permission to cover songs etc. and I would guess that would be relevant here to a DVD or CD since in essence it would be a "cover" or in any case, would be considered something that requires a "mechanical royalty" (and let me say I really don't know much more about this topic so I'm just speculating here).

So either P is making it difficult to release the songs (either out of spite for WB, or greed, or whatever)... or else maybe it would just take up too many resorces for the LABF to manage all the legal clearances. I know sometimes the cost in legal time could sometimes be more than the actual royalties you have to pay... although it would be nice if P would just waive the royalties since this is for charity and I believe he and Sheila are good friends.

Hey, are there any copyright lawyers out there that could volunteer some time to LABF??? smile
