You Want Me

I wanna know what people think of the song "You Want Me" as performed on the Vegas DVD. Is this an older tune? cuz it blends so nicely with Strollin. I think it might be new. I don't have it on any boots. If it is new and is a sign of whats to come from the Prince of pop, I think his new effort is gonna kill. But then again, thats been the case with almost every release.

By the way that you look at me
I can tell that you fancy me
Sure as there is salt in the sea
You Want Me
You Want Me!!

It sounds like he's just rapping some half-assed lyrics over the music to Strollin', doesn't it? Do you think he purposefully sings "Blah blah blah" or did he forget that part?

I don't know. Hard to give an opinion of "the song," if there is any such song, based on this live snippet, I think.

He clearly meant to sing "blah blah blah" His hand movements indicate this. And the lyrics are certainly not improv either. They are way to thought out to be off the cuff. Also, the music for this number isn't even the music to Strollin'. After he says "How do you like my band" the music changes to You Want Me. I know some people have a hard time differenciating between two songs which are played in the same key, but that is the beauty of Prince live. He puts his set lists together with this in mind so that the show runs smooth. Its just an added touch that REAL musicians take advantage of. I think You Want Me is the highlight of the DVD personally

You Want Me is indeed a new song in it's own right. At the
moment the version on the Vegas DVD is the only one
officially available, the studio version has yet to be released.
The full lyrics for this song were posted in the VS room at
NPGMC when the new look site opened earlier this year.

Don't u just love him LIVE? Some were complaining about his recent all live CD's, but not me I have been putting them together for years now and listening to the over the studio recordings with great pleasure since at least 1990.

Yes, and the lyrics as posted included the "blah blah blah" part, too. Whether it was still a work in formation when the lyrics were posted, or it was purposeful--who knows?

Was the vegas show the first time he performed it?

Now I remember the lyrics. Thanks for the tip. Lyrics sounded familiar but I couldn't get to know why. Would anyone be so kind to paste them as they appeared at the npgmc? I didn't keep them and maybe some others either.

As for my opinion I think it's a powerful and beautiful big band style love song. It's one of my favourites of the dvd. I love the transition from strolling and the main role of the band on it.

Thanks in advance

And the lyrics 'blah blah blah' were sung on occasions when he performed the song on the ONA Europe leg onwards.

I think "U Want Me" as performed on the Alladin DVD sounds like an extension to "Strollin'", it has very much the same vibe to me. Anyway, I like the performance!

When I got the DVD, it was my favorite song 4 about a week. I even put the 2nd verse on my cell phone's voice mail. His performance of "Strollin'/U want me" is still my favorite performane on the DVD.

Thanks very much for the posting of the lyrics.

And yes I share the same feeling with many of you. It's one of my favourite moments of the dvd. This beautiful u want me song so full of instruments fascinates me, just as the reflection song does, even though they're so different in style the love message I find very similar. Keeping the same line of most of the solo voice and piano songs, I would even mention she loves me for me - from the rainbow children.

Very nice love songs, precious lyrics.

Huh. I still think it sounds half-assed. wink But at least it's purposefully so.

U Want Me has become my favourite tune on this DVD. I really like that direction..classy, still cool as all hell, and jazzy. I had problems getting the hook out of my head for weeks.

Would love to see it released

Peace

there was a critic who went 2 a show here in atlanta, and prince ran so many jams 2gether that he did'nt know they were different songs. Then asked his daughter why did'nt he play 1999?she said he diD but it was right behind another jam, so dad did not get it.so yea u want me is a song, not an extension of stroling.thats how he makes his shows flow.i think pop life is the best jam on the dvd he and the horns were tight on that shit.only if u could hear the crowd join him.but it was a well put 2gether jam live.

Strolling + Renato + Greg + Eric solos + Prince voice and performance + the whole band behind + u want me - it is a jewel.

And again how he calls your attention to the band makes you part of the song. How do you like my band? he's being active towards the audience, I always like it when he does that, it makes you feel part of it.

The whole piece is a masterpiece, in my opinion, one of the best moments of the dvd.

Greg solo's amazing, not to talk about his dance steps emulating Prince's

I think I'm gonna play it now mr.green
