The whole album is a 10 except "IT" which is about a 6. But it could easily be reworked to bring that number up. I like the words, but it just feels like it's lacking something.

I give the whole thing a ten. This whole album was a masterpiece, so many generas of music.

1. Starfish & Coffee ( Charlie Brown piano had me hooked)
2. The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (Could a song be more demo yet so cool. Should release it now in this form. Would be a hit.)
3. Adore (Classic love song, not mushy, and all girls like it)
4. Strange Relationship (This would have been huge)
5. If I Was Your Girlfriend (At the time Princes most nasty song, I remember it being played on radio for the first time and DJ almost destoys the needle on the record when Prince gets to the climax at the end. 1987 was not ready for this)
6. Sign O The Times ( Imagery still applys to this day, brilliant in all ways)
7. Hot Thing (What a dance song this was and the ext.version was even hotter. This was the "Gett Off" of it's day. A huge urban hit when I was 15)
8.U Got The Look (What can I say it spent 6months on Billboard Hot 100. From June to Jan. They played it so much om radio and MTV I had 2 like it)

9. Housequake (Just fuckin cool)
10. It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night ( I loved the constant change ups and the complete party feel)
11. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man ( I like the Movie version better because of the guitar solo, used play that part over and over again)
12. The Cross (Brilliant once again, Prince as a Rocker)
13. Forever In My Life ( Once again it was the movie version that I got hooked on)
14. Play In The Sunshine (Started off as my favorite, but ended up falling down the list each year as I grew older)
15. It (Was my favorite from 1988-1990 from this LP)
16. Slow Love (Great but sappy)


SOTT is Prince's best hands down, the concept was unbelievable, but the legend was even more so. What I speak of is the rumors of it being originally a Triple Lp (Crystal Ball) and rumors about "The Dawn". The one I liked best was the one about how there was another LP coming out right after this one wrapped in black paper with no label of any kind, was supposed to be his funkiest yet. That would have sold millions had it been released at that time (probably is more than 5 Million Bootlegs of it out there anyway>

I'd have to agree with a lot of people on here and say that I pretty much love the entire album... though there are songs that I'll skip over to hear something else that I'm in the mood for.

But isn't that the true beauty of Prince's albums and body of work? On any one album, there are songs that capture your mind, and sometimes your body, and take you on a journey, while others don't quite strike your fancy... but they sure do grab someone elses attention!

My always-a-ten choices are Girlfriend, Sign, Adore, Housequake, Dorothy Parker, and ICNTTPOYM. The few that I tend to skip are Sunshine, Slow Love, and Cross.

Now, for my 9 year old, she plays numbers 3,6, and 9 on the first disc. She waited and waited and WAITED for Prince to play Starfish and Coffee. She sings it often a cappella.
