Zannalee Laser Disc

I just picked up a Prince Laser Disc here in Japan called "The Undertaker". It is an original Warner Japan release, not a boot. The disc has 6 videos. (Live direct to DAT performances) The Ride, Poorgoo, Honky Tonk Woman, Bambi, Zannalee, The Undertaker, and Dolphin. I am sure this is VERY rare...Anyone else ever heard of this?

WTF! hang onto that thing! it's probably worth a mint! it's an unreleased album that Warners wouldn't let him release with Guitar Player magazine. you can get it on video over here as well.

I bought this laserdisc almost 10 years ago. It is a underground classic. Its official. I also have Sacrafice of Victor on jap laserdisc. THese are collectibles no matter how well they are bootlegged.

But where do you find a LD player? They still make those?
I see used LD's all the time that have not been released to DVD.

They stopped making LD players when DVD players were released (about '99). You can only get them 2nd hand.

And yes these Jap laserdiscs are amazing quality - better than US releases and yes very collectible.

Laserdisc is an analog-only format.

NOOO,

You are wrong, squirrelgrease

Only the video on LD is analog-only.

The audio can be (NTSC discs):

1.Only analog
2.Analog + Digital PCM
3.Analog (mono) + Digital AC3 + Digital PCM
4.Analog + Digital DTS

PAL LD only can have analog or digital PCM sound.

All the Prince LD, except Purple Rain, have digital uncompressed sound, the same quality you find on CD-audio.

Getdafukoutahere.

Really? So the LD players had a DA-converter built in? Stereo only, right? Is thre a form of copy-protection on the LD's?

Now, I'm really on the lookout for these platters.

I do remember that back in 95, the "The Undertaker"
video was beeing shown at the London Glam Slam Shop.
But it was a different version. It did not have the intro,
the ..eh..throw-up sequence...sorry for my english here...
and no effects on the picture itself.
I`d love to have a copy of that.

Not all, the olders don't have DA-converter and only can play the analog track.

squirrelgrease said:

Stereo and Sorround (Dolby Digital or DTS), like DVD but less quality.

squirrelgrease said:

I'm not 100% sure, but I think only the video can have a copy-protection sistem (Macrovision). The digital sound track is not copy protected. You can make copies using the analog output, or if you have a LD-player with digital output (I have one lol) you can make digital to digital copies of the sound track without any loss of quality. I think some boots of Lovesexy Live In Germany has been made using this method.

Some of Prince LD have only been edited on Japan and they are hard to find (Undertaker, Sacrifice Of Victor).

If you want to know more about LD take a look to the following web:
