Retiering old songs

If this turns out to be true on the forthcomming tour, will he do it with dignity and put the songs to bed in their true glory and remain faithfull to what they once stood for? by this i mean are the lyrics going to be changed so that they are in fact not hits at all moreso interpretations of the hits wthich fit his current beliefs. Put simply, is he gonna get us to chant "sexy mother hubbard shaking her stuff, shaking her stuff" or perhaps are we gonna get some of that nasty stuff from his royal badness. god it hurts to call him that now.

what do u think?

You know, David Bowie did something like that in 1992. I think he did, like, a "greatest hits' tour, and that was going to be the last time he'd play his past hits. But even now, you can still find him doing stuff like "Space Oddity", "Fame" and "China Girl". What I mean is, Prince is gonna change his mind in the future and bring his oldies out of retirement.

hmmm But then again, I could be wrong. I mean, he doesn't play 1999 anymore, for example, since the last millenium is over. So he probably means it. I certainly hope not though.

Okay - just my two pence. Didn't he say all this mumbo jumbo ten years ago?

Also I don't mind him retiring his old songs - BUT what 1) will he never play those rare songs that he hardly ever plays like 17 days / CT parade / If I was ur g/friend etc

2) when he was last in London he kicked arse for like 2.5 hours on average - what does in intend on playing in future concerts to make time up or will we just have 1hour concerts due to lack of material?

Play them one last time at Family Jamm with the bands that made them famous and THEN stop playing them. I don't want to hear Raspberry Beret for the last time with Rhonda singing it, I want to hear it with Wendy and Lisa.

it's BULLSHIT. he'll be performing the clasics till he dies.

Prince wouldn't have sold shit in OZ if they'd advertised the gigs as anything but 'see the hits live'... it's just PR.

Yeah, but my initial post asked if you believe that he would sing perform the hits in their true glory as opposed to re-interpretations of the hits. In my eyes, a re-interpretation is not playing a hit. For instance, his lyric change on 'the cross' and 'purple rain' and his desire to remove curse words from his lyrics do not reperesent what the hit was, stood for and meant.

You said "Retiering old songs". Is that like adding new arrangements to them?

he has often re-worked his hits in the past. is this any different to changing the words? i cant say? I'd prefer him not to. I believe that he is going to retire these past tracks then they should be done true to the recording. what do u think?

This sounds like the same thing as when artist come out and say this is my farewell tour and than a few years later they tour again and say, I just had to get back on the road again. It a sure way to sell concert tickets.

i know the chances are that Prince will play the songs again. However, as it is to be assumed that they will never be played again i asked the question WILL HE BE TRUE TO THE ORIGIONAL RECORDING? i.e will he change the lyrics to fit his new found beliefs or will he put the tracks to bed in their true glory (untampered with).

any opinions?
