One Night Alone...Solo Piano & Voice by Prince?

Hi

I have just received the ONA...CD & I have only 1 question :

WHY OH WHY OH WHY OH WHY wasn't this given the release that N.E.W.S. has had ?

The music is inspirational, the packaging is exceptional, in one word it is simply PRINCE!

My thoughts too. I only have a copy of it but I think it was worthy of a general release.

I agree... ONA is a spectacularly gorgeous album.

The first time I heard it, I was on the GNER train from London heading up to Edinburgh. It was rainy and bleak outside the window, an annoying lecherous guy from across the aisle was staring at me ... and my discman had certainly seen better days.

But listening to ONA took me to another world. It struck me so deeply, more than any other Prince album. The cover of A Case Of U... precious.

It's a thing of beauty, and I have to agree with you jolajeph... I wish everyone had access to it, just like NEWS.

Does anyone know how I can get a copy of ONA (besides e-Bay)?

I would take exception with your comment about the packaging (ugly cover art, VERY hard-to-read font, cardboard isn't very wear-and-tear compliant), but that's just picking nits.

I think this would have been a smash with critics and music lovers - it would have been one of those quiet sleepers that always get a namecheck in music interviews, and eventually gained a name for itself - maybe ten years from now, ONA will have a reputation among musicologists as the "brilliant little album that never was", and Prince will finally give it a proper release.

Agree totally,
the cover is awful but the music is wonderful.

Yeah, I agree absolutely. To my mind, "One nite alone" and "Xpectation" are incredible, and I don't understand why he doesn't want to sell them on stores.

i know xactly what u mean "a case of u" takes me 2 a place which i cant describe 2 any1 , this is 1 of the reasons i love p's music ! (i kno joni wrote it).

a great album , but if it was released it would flop !!! because so many p fans are turning away from all the nonsense which goe's with being a fan. the fan base may b lower than 100.000 he needs promotion !!! i'm afraid there may b no more hit records !!! but i hope i am wrong.

What a wonderful album! It's my favorite thing he's released in the 00s. I'm kind of glad it's a secret though. It makes being a club memeber have special perks.

One Night Alone? Oh yeah, this is just another example of a Prince album that was dogged by most of the fans (or at least on the org) at the time of its release. And now look at all of this praise...

Despite this, I doubt NEWS will get the same response two years down the line.

ONA is one of his best albums. Top ten for me.

Its a really soulful album, but its only 30mins long and there are some really obvious edits/cuts, so its not really release worthy on that basis, but the music is so beautiful it had to be released to us members!
