What is Prince's association..... what influence or association does/did Prince have with these artists:
TLC Salt & Peppa Bruce Springsteen Janet Jackson Madonna Bobby Brown I once saw a performance by Prince & N.P.G. from his Miami Glam Slam and they performed a song with Prince kinda freestyling the words but 2 the beat of songs by some of the above artists. not sure about TLC except he used to throw in snippets of Waterfalls and they covered If I Was Your Girlfriend

TLC:
He introduced TLC in 1999 at the MTV music awards as "his favorite group." He had earlier identified with their financial struggle with their record label/management contract and ended a performance on one late night show by saying "Free TLC." And many people believe that he had some involvement in writing "Waterfalls" but he did not. It is produced by Organized Noize, which incorporate electric guitar with funk rhythms, often drawing comparison to some of his work. And yes TLC covered "If I Was Your Girlfriend." Salt-n-Pepa: Name checked him in their song "Shoop," their homage to men, where Salt says "like Prince said you're a sexy mutha..." He turned around and sampled it in his remix of "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" on "The Beautiful Experience" CD, and probably used the Shoop beat in a few live performances. Madonna: "Love Song" and a bunch of other drama, including them going out/dating possibly. Him writing Grafitti Bridge with her in mind, and her saying the script was "shit." And him writing about that dream he had about her helping him in his campaign to free his master recordings from WB Records. Janet Jackson: When Joseph Jackson was shopping a deal for Janet, the Minneapolis sound was rocking the charts so they went to Minneapolis and met with Flyte Time, and Joe told Jimmy and Terry, "dont have my child sounding like some Prince ho" or something to that effect. Funny, even though the album was about Janet's "Control" it was Joe who shopped the deal LOL. In any case, songs like "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" showcase the MPLS sound quite well. . I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall when Madonna called Prince "stupid" when he told her of his grand plans for Grafitti Bridge.

Regarding the Bruce connection, Bruce was onstage with Prince during the Purple Rain tour (Feb. 23 1985 at the Forum in L.A. during BABY I'M A STAR). Madonna also appeared onstage during the same performance.
Also, Prince has attended a Bruce concert at least once. He was quoted (probably in the 1990 Rolling Stone article) about how Bruce controls his audience and how he was in awe about the performance... or something like that. Regarding TLC, I think Prince attended the funeral for Left Eye. I think they had also talked about working together in the studio, but I'm not sure if it ever happened. Also re Janet Jackson Prince performed 'What Have You Done For Me Lately?' in Tokyo during the Nude tour (I have it on video somewhere) He said something like 'Did I write that? Who wrote that?' during that song. | |
