Purple Rain Widescreen DVD? Does it exist?

Purple Rain Widescreen DVD? Does it exist?

Is there a way to get this? I have looked and looked. all Warner has is the crappy fullscreen. How about plans for Cherry Moon or Sign of the Times on DVD, period?

Boutta say! Just bought the UK DVD 2day & gonna watch after T. It says 1.85:1 widescreen on the sleeve, which isn't full cinemascope, but is the size of a widescreen TV. Was PR in cinemascope at the pics? Cinemascope is 2.35:1

For those not in the know, these ratios refer to length:height of the picture. So for 2.35:1 the screen is 2.35 times wider than it is tall. 1.85:1 is 1.85 times wider than it is tall. U dig? You say it's "One eighty-five to 1".

I think Prince wants a proper anniversary special edition of Purple Rain but, sadly, it's not up to him. It's up to Warners & if he's taking them to court over that dodgy 'Sign O The Times' DVD, then I think relations will be a little sour between them. Which could be good in a perverse way. In the past, they've released Prince stuff around the same time as NPG releases. So, they might do a fancy Purple Rain DVD to bamboozle his sales if he releases another DVD himself. As for Under The Cherry Moon, it's not on the cards yet, but almost everything is getting a DVD release at some point, so hang in there.

Shit!

I just watched the Region 2 Warner version of 'Purple Rain'. The pics cool but the sound really needs remastering! I really couldn't recommend this DVD to anyone. Remember when they first tried putting classic albums onto CD and it sounded really tinny & lifeless? Well, that's what this one's like.

Can you extract the sound from the Region 1 and the picture from the Region 2 and combine them? I'm sure it's possible.

Maybe even convert it to Region 1? lol

Do what I do. Play the region 1 disc, but stick black tape along the top and bottom of your TV screen.

Best sound, and in widescreen! wink

derek

The region 4 is quite good - pretty sure it's 5.1 surround and the transfer isn't too bad either.

But for sure it could do with a Special Edition remastered soundtrack and transfer...and while we're at it release Purple Rain on DVD-Audio or SACD smile

How many times does this need to be said?

The Australian Region 4 disc is widescreen panoramic and has Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. It is Clearly the best version in the world.

However, you need a region free player if you are not from Australia to play it (and a tv that can play PAL).

He he, one of the only times in the history of the world that we have got a better DVD version than both the US and Europe.

The Region 2 DVD is in 5.1 surround, but they just haven't done a very inspired job. It sounds tinny and cack. It needs a proper remastering. What ratio is the Region 4?
