Has Prince composed all his songs? I'm astonished with some threads I read in these forums.
In one it was said that Wendy and Lisa composed the music of "Sometimes It Snows In April". Even it was insinuated that they composed part of other songs like "Purple rain". In another one, that a non identificated woman composed "Curious child". And on several times I read Prince is a liar, tyrannical and so on. Ok, ok, I need an answer or a psychologist to help me to stand for that. Is Prince a genius or a song thief?

"non identificated woman" ??
She had a career outside of a couple of lame Emancipation toss-offs. There's also the issue of Do Me, Baby (Andre), and Party Up (Morris). During the Revolution days Wendy & Lisa especially had an increasing role in the composition of the music up until 1986. But Prince was a pretty singular-minded individual, you only have to read the various Uptown books to see that he had very little of a social life, and his existence in the 80s mainly revolved around recording music. During jam sessions, I would say whatever comes up is everyone's to share - but since Prince was the only outlet for the music at that time, it went down in his name. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Depends on what you mean when you say composed, since in a layperson's terms it isn't always what they think it is. You'd probably be surprised at how many geniuses have lifted music from elsewhere. Even the Godfather of Soul himself lifted the riff from "Fame." æ [This message was edited Tue Sep 30 22:58:41 PDT 2003 by Supernova] This post not for the wimp contingent. They are also credited as composers of music which features in the original soundtrack for Purple Rain (not the title track), specifically for their contribution to 'Computer Blue', as also with '17 Days' and 'Mountains.' There collaborative support in contributing to songs by way of arrangements is also on record, whereby Prince would write songs and often give the recordings in relatively skeleton form to Wendy and Lisa, and leave them to contribute their ideas. As far as I am aware, they do not dispute the original songwriting credit on those songs where their ideas were contributed, although they have subsequently sought to make clear the level of their contribution. . Wasn't their comment about Purple Rain the reason why Prince made that childish comment on L4OA about "Lendy & Wisa" ?
I imagine the way it is played with the guitar is probably what they were referencing, it's Wendy's style of play, it's quite individual. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think I read it here...GENIUS STEALS

Prince would create the song IE, lyrics, basic chord structure. Then the rest of the gang would help arrange and polish it.
Prince had the record deal and thus the contractual power to use the rest of the band to his benifit. He is undeniably talented and he is still a genuis! However... Wendy Lisa and Doc Fink were the master minds behind most of the pop hits. Most of "Purple Rain,""Rasbery Barret" etc... They balanced Prince's sexuallity, energy and rawness into polished pop songs. It was a excellent rare balanced collaboration of talent. Part of the r4eason he let them go. It was becomming too obvious that he NEEDED them. Consiquently he has hade the same pop success since their departure. By the same token niether have they. He misses they're pop marketable arrangments. They miss his passion and marketable image. I would just wonder that after so many musical genius, that is there a possibility of coming to the pentical of our creativeity? That all the sites and sounds will have been produced and all we have left is to arrange them in different ways,
even then we, and I feel any supposed musical genius would eventually come to the point of repeating themselves as I see happen in every artist. An artist himself will realise this if they live in the truth if we only know what we expose ourselves to , then where is the creativity? in the arrangement or the single note? and if everything that is, is already created then that just says to me none can acctually steal nothing, because in the end it was handed down from an older source weather it be thousands or hundereds of years old or mear seconds, the point being that the knowledge was manifest in human form and therefore being knowledge manifest from "god", so it is not even the one who has been enlightened with this manifestation of this knowledge to be soul possesor of this knowledge, but it is knowledge manifest to bring us all to light, and it is the possesor of this knowledge to make sure that this creation, this manifestation of knowledge is used in a manner in accordance with LOVE, it is also the people yet to be enlightened, need to have this thinking, who also have the responsibility to use this knowledge wisely in accordance with love, and not only does this apply to music but also all knowledge and wisdom manifest on this earth, all of our technologies we, everyone on the face of this planet has came from someone who has created this world we live in today there for , ALL of our technologies we have today are entitled to all peoples reguardless of race job sex creed religion, we all have enherited a certain level of life, a comfort, a level of exhistance that should not be afforded not one single person over the other, the meek shall surley inherit the earth, and that doesn't mean just poor, those that are rich in knowledge and wealth from technologies have this opportunity at this moment to redistribute the weath of knowledge, to create a life style that should be afforded to everyone alive, thus redeeming them selves to be one of us who inherit the earth, they need us to create and build these technologies, (that they have the knowledge and wisdom of, but need us to create[& consume]), we really don't need them Can you not create a tune in your own head and sing it aloud, meaning: can you not create also, make knowledge and wisdom manifest? And manifest, create this knowledge and wisdom with LOVE? the record industry if they do this correctly will set a chain of events, that could make some real changes in the thinking of many corporations and how they view their workers how they view the people of the world, I just hope Prince being behind alot of this change as I am sure he is well aware of, has EVERYONE in order for this coming year, Im telling you a big change is coming, HURRAY! Its coming for the car companies too everyone everywhere, we cannot survive unless we make this change, we cannot survive with out the help of each other .. That's never really been an "issue". Morris wrote the lyrics and let prince use them in exchange for a record deal/place in The Time During the Revolution days Wendy & Lisa especially had an increasing role in the composition of the music up until 1986.
But Prince was a pretty singular-minded individual, you only have to read the various Uptown books to see that he had very little of a social life, and his existence in the 80s mainly revolved around recording music.

that's pretty much the way lisa put it once. Once you were there (at jam sessions) you were pretty much sharing/giving your ideas and if prince liked them he used them. that being said, I sure all of his band members have contributed to his music in some form or another, some more than others. Prince is NOT a one-man deal, that may be what some think, but he doen't come up with all that stuff on his own, to answer the question asked in the original post. There are just some that feel that they're name has to be written down somewhere to prove it (like andre) and some who really don't care and don't make a big fuss(like lisa and wendy, dez, matt) [This message was edited Wed Oct 1 19:58:30 PDT 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

Didn't Andre also accuse him of stealing "Controversy"? If I remember correctly,Andre claimed that the music of "Uptown" was basically his creation.
