If you haven't heard 'Something In The water...' from the 'Rendezvous' boot you really are missing out, my friend. I suggest you get busy and blag a copy as quickly as possible. It's that good. Other suggestions from other rehearsal sesions off the top of my head are: 'Billy/Strange Relationship'(Purple Rain tour) - all 45 minutes of it 'Jealous Again' (Nude tour) The 11:38 min. version. The live version of 'Just My Imagination' from Het Paard '88 is not too shabby either, but everybody has heard this version to death...and I'm sure you have too. Get the 7th Street Entry surprise gig from 1984. P coaxed some memorable bluesy tones from his Telecaster that night. The entire performance was a joy from start to finish. 'Hero Takes A Fall' from San Francisco '86 features a blistering guitar solo from Prince, for those who like it frenzied and loud. Get 'Le New Morning' aftershow from 1987. Look out for a Prince improvisation tentatively titled 'What Did I Do?', only ever played at that gig. 'Maybe Your Baby' - Prince's duet with Stevie Wonder from '94 at Glam Slam will blow your socks off too. Studio trax: The original 13 minute version of 'Computer Blue'(St. Louis Park Warehouse Version) - complete with all that lovely feedback is another must. 'Endorphinmachine' (demo version) 'Zannalee' (demo version) I'll get back to you as soon as I'v remembered some more . And the solo from THE JAM - FUNK NATIONAL ANTHEM - MAN that's just powerful. Nothing amazing about it - just hits you right between the nuts... er... eyes. Don't get me wrong, it's a great choice. But a safe choice nonetheless... Actually, I think the three choices given above are limited in scope and more than a little restrictive. Let's create another poll! . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Especially the video. As a guitar player, it's mesmerizing to be able to watch his hands so closely.

I kid you not.'Honky Tonk' and 'Bambi' was the crucial moment my gilfriend, who comes from a musically trained family, suddenly began to respect Prince as a guitar player. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Take note, org assembled! What a coincidence - Prince has asked me to round up all copies of this video. If you shameless bootleggers will orgnote me a letter of repentance, I'll give you my mailing address and forward them all back to their rightful owner. The Normal Whores Club

I was front row at this show & it was all that, just seeing the two of them onstage together was one for the time capsule. Berry Gordy led stevie to his mike & during stevies little speech talking about those who left legacy's behind prince was just looking at him in awe & at one point prince was on the floor of the stage at the back just laughing as if HE couldn't believe Stevie was up there with him, unforgettable. And the solo from THE JAM - FUNK NATIONAL ANTHEM - MAN that's just powerful. Nothing amazing about it - just hits you right between the nuts... er... eyes. Here's some more for you:
Rehearsals: 'When Doves Scream' (from Purple Rain tour rehearsal #5) Totally improvised and absolutely insane... 'Soft And Wet'(from Lovesexy tour rehearsal #2) Little heard instrumental jam. 'U Got The look' (from Lovesexy rehearsal #5) Live: 'Thieves In The Temple'(Earls Court 24th June 1992) The one where Prince gives Paco de Lucia a run for his money! 'Peach' (w. Lenny Kravitz) The Palladium, New York City, 14th July 1994. Probably their best time together onstage! '(Sometimes I Feel Like A) Motherless Child' Mill City Festival, Minn. 1999. 'Alphabet St.' (24th June 2002 - Xenophobia Celebration) 'Whole Lotta Love' (Carling Apollo, London, 5th OIctober 2002. Best live version EVER! Studio: 'Habibi' (2001) Soundcheck: 'Dolphin' (March 2002) 'Paisley Park' (March 2002) Aftershow: 'Beautiful Strange' (3rd November 2002, Rotterdam) It'd be nice to see someone else come up with more suggestions of fretwork madness "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

The playing was textbook/uninspired whatsoever. I wrote a long orgnote about this before where yeah, there's some of us that'll never be satisfied... I USED to always want to hear Prince jam out with a trio, ROCKIN like Hendrix. Unfortunately, that video AINT it. His dependency on that lame-ass whammy pedal dominates every guitar passage, the mix is bone dry, and the performance has less energy than a 9am soundcheck after a late-night after party. So. THAT SAID. I disagree. The undertaker video is exactly what the title implies: lifeless. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

That´s good or Call the law from warehouse 93 ! I think there are a lot of guitar solos better than the undertaker session.

I have a version of The Ride that has to be his best live guitar work. Its absolutely amazing. Now where it was recorded is still undetermined. I know its an early version, no later than 1993.
