Live 4 Love [original 7:05 min version] The one that only has Prince singing all of the lyrics for
the first 4 or 5 minutes. Heard it for the very first time yesterday. Had it on one of the more infamous boots for a year now but always thought it was that version that circulated on Napster, the awful one, the 3:07 min one. But this is a whole nother affair. This is great. I love this joint. In a way it's even better than the released one. Altho they both have great moments. I was almost jumping up toward the ceiling cuz I thought it didn't have Tony'r rap on it. Alas, at the end he does come in. Anyway, nice jam. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Oh man!!! I've never heard this, and I was reading your post thinking to myself, "Yea!!! No Tony M. rap!" And then... I don't think the rap is that bad, but it really dates what could otherwise be a timeless song. So otherwise, is it much different from the D&P version? http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I haven't heard it in ages, but what stood out for me were the lyrics. They're quite different and they're darker than the released version. IstenSzek, can you please quite some lyrics for us? Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

The original version is WAAAY better than the album version. It was darker and a lot more funky.

*Ahem* (Broken falsetto voice) 30,000 feet and still-a-counting, The attack on my plane is steadily mounting, Feel like I could die from my heart-a-pounding, How can I Live 4 Love? I'm calling, Live 4 Love Kicked out of my home at 17, Then bounce back and forth like a flick on a screen, Don't nobody know the trouble I've seen How can I Live 4 Love? I'm calling Live 4 Love My mission, so they said, was just to drop the bombs, Don't think about the families, the babies with their moms, Just like I've got no conscience, just like I've got no qualms, Just like I don't Live 4 Love. (Go Tommy gun) So here, my target is approaching, The angel on my shoulder starts coaching, Is it the angel of death? I take a deep breath How can I die? How can I die? How can I die 4 love? Maybe I was better off staying in school, But everybody said flying planes was cool, It's so easy for them to say, cuz they never have to go through, How can I Live 4 Love? I'm calling... Damn, I got hit but I still complete the mission, I flash upon my own father long ago wishing, Before he died, that I would always try, Always try to Live 4 Love, Today I'm in another place, I have another face, My name has been changed to protect my new race, The choice you make is vital, So at the end of my recital I say, You got to Live 4 Love.

The original version is interesting to hear, but the released
version is far superior. The original version lacks a lot of 'punch', Prince's vocal delivery is much more laid back. The re-recorded vocal on the released version has far more edge to it and fits in better with the music and lyrical content.

That's what I've always liked most about "Live 4 Love", the fierce intensity of it. All that guitar waving around through it and the solo at the end is superb. So altho the unreleased version might be superior in one way, the released one is superior in another. As with all of Prince's tunes. But hey, that's why I like the man. The same song twice, yet completely different and both kick ass. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
