Yep, I've always loved this song. I really love the guitar solo and the lyrics are great too.

That song ROCKS!!! It's one of m favorite tracks from SOTT. I remember seeing the video for the first time. It was basically the performance that was lifted from the SOTT movie. I liked the way he was rocking his solo while lifting up his leg.

I also thought Jordan Knight's cover wasn't too bad either. Now on with the criticisms...

ICNTTPOYM is my favorite Prince song of all time. I love the version from the Sign O'The Times movie and the guitar solo is one of his best. smile

Is that the version with the slow guitar intro at the beginning? Well whatever it is, its a great song and my Dad's fave Prince song. I caught him 1ce listening 2 it really loud and playing air guitar! eheheh.

Im heart ing DMSR at the moment. Well, its what Im listening 2 now and 1999 is my favorite Prince album.

The guitar interlude that precedes 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man' is more like a segue, and has nothing to do with the actual song.

The version of 'I.C.N.T.T.P.O.Y.M.'on 'Sign O' The Times' is an edit of the version that made up the bulk of 'Dream Factory'.

Nightcrawler

It was only last June
When her old man ran away
She couldn't stop crying
Cause she knew he was gone 2 stay It was 10:35 on a lonely friday night
She was standin' by the bar
Hmm, she was lookin' alright, yeah I asked if she wanted 2 dance
And she said all she wanted was a good man
And wanted 2 know
If I thought I was qualified, yeah And I said, baby don't waste your time
I know what's on your mind
I may be qualified 4 a one night stand
But I could never take the place of your man It hurt me so bad when she told me
With tears in her eyes (Tears in her eyes)
He was all she ever had
And now she wanted 2 die He left her with a baby
And another one on the way
She couldn't stop cryin'
Cause she knew he was gone 2 stay She asked me if we could be friends
And I said, oh, honey baby that's a dead end
U know and I know
That we wouldn't be satisfied
No
And I said Baby don't waste your time
I know what's on your mind
U wouldn't be satisfied (Wouldn't be satisfied)
With a one night stand And I could never take the place of your man Yeah, yeah, the place of your man
See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

The version on dream factory is superior. There is a breakdown just before the guitar solo (similar to the Little Red Corvette 12"), and when the guitar solo breaks loose, its far more effective than on the SOTT version.

This is among my top 3 fav prince songs. Its a bit lightweight, but who can resist the melody, beat and guitar work. Hopefully this will make a return to the live set (a la When U were mine on the last tour) for his next world tour.

Is it true that it's a 1980's song and that he has reworked it for Sign?

From this song I also really like the part during the awesome guitar solo where Prince gets "followed" by the horn players.. Currently feelin'good @ "Reset your Brain" by Soulvation.
