"New 'outtakes' Found in ABMP" I just came across this collection. WTF is ABMP?
The track listing is as follows: 1. Well Done 2. Kiss (demo) 3. We Can Funk (alternate mix) 4. Superfunkicalifragisexy (extended) 5. Databank (extended) 6. Last Heart 7. Witness 8. Old Friends 4 Sale 9. Baby Go-Go 10. Kiss (Mazarati version) 11. Nothing Compares 2 U (bass and drums version) I've only listened to a few tracks, and here are my observations. Superfunk' has a few extra measures, but nothing earth-shattering. I was surprised at Databank because it's much slower than versions on Charade etc. But it sounds great, and it's "extended" a few bars after Prince demands that Susan "fade this shit out!" Where'd this collection come from. Any input on any of these tracks would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Treaux

Well you tell us... you're the one who's got it.
What is it, a cd? a cdr? downloads? does it have any info? The tracklist doesn't seem to have anything on it that isn't already circulating though, but I've never seen a boot with that particular tracklisting before (not that I really pay attention to every single boot that surfaces).

Anxiety was not accusing you (they were asking you) of downloading the songs. It was simply being explained that 'abmp' most likely indicates that somewhere along the line the tracks were likely downloaded from the source that Anxiety has cited. In whatever format you presently have these tracks doesn't necessarily mean that they did not at previous stage appear on a Usenet newsgroup. For example, it is quite possible that downloaded tracks later feature on a CD. . [This message was edited Sat Sep 27 8:55:42 PDT 2003 by langebleu] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. All I was asking was for information about the tracks on this collection. This wasn't meant to be a where-did-you-d/l-this thread. I thought that was illegal or frowned-upon in this forum. Royal Hub.
Anyway, the "Databank" track surprised me because it's much slower and a bit longer than the version found on Charade. The "Old Friends 4 Sale" is the one with the Claire Fischer arrangements (original lyrics, not the revamped version). I haven't heard much about the "Well Done" track, but it sounds good. This "Kiss" demo is just Prince and a guitar. I've read about this, and I wonder if this is the tape that Prince gave David Z. and then later reclaimed!?! "Last Heart" sounds just like the one on Dream Factory Remastered. As does "Witness," but yet again, it's slower. The "Mazarati-Kiss" is what became "Kiss" on Parade with the hi-hat and guitar arrangement. The "Nothing Compares" sounds like a stripped down version of the CD version.

All those versions appear on 'The Works' bootleg.
Databank - with a few 'doo-wah's' after he says 'Susan, fade this shit out' Kiss - Prince and his guitar, lasts about 1.10 Well Done - 1989/1990 track We Can Funk - there are a few diff versions of this one Superfunkycalifragisexy - instrumental? Witness - again, there are a couple of slightly diff ones I have heard And the rest are on The Work

1. Well Done -its a 1989 track given to The Steeles later.
2. Kiss (demo) - this is the demo given to Mazarati since the lead singer(Christian values and all) refused Jerk Out due to it's "filthy language". 3. We Can Funk (alternate mix) - 1986 Dream Factory outtake done with the full Revolution line up. 4. Superfunkicalifragisexy (extended) the Instrumental right? Released via the NPGMusicclub in 2001. 5. Databank (extended) -Never knew it was an edit. 1986 This is another Dream Factory outtake done with the full Revolution lineup. 6. Last Heart - 1986 This is another Dream Factory outtake done with the full Revolution lineup. Released on the Crystal Ball set in 1997. 7. Witness 1986 This is another Dream Factory outtake done with the full Revolution lineup. 8. Old Friends 4 Sale - 1985 Parade outtake. If you listen closely, he put the song in the movie, Under The Cherry Moon(just the strings) along with Wonderful Day, Junk Music and MORE!! Prince later redid in 1991 and offered it to Joe Cocker who refused it. WB released this on The Vault via Prince. 9. Baby Go-Go - 1986 Outtake later given to Nona Hendryx. 10. Kiss (Mazarati version) - After David Z took that VERY raw demo that Prince gave Mazarati. He converted it into the masterpiece we hear everytime we listen to Kiss. Prince decided to take the song back saying "This is TOO GOOD for Mazarati". And made the song even better. True, it was Mazarati's song that Prince gave them for their first album on Paisley Park, but the lead singer sounds horrible and has NO soul singing it. Anyways, Prince did keep the backround vocals of Mazarati version for his released version. 11. Nothing Compares 2 U (bass and drums version) This is the version did before he ONCE again thought he would strike gold by eliminating the BASS from his song to guarantee a hit. Big mistake, Mutiny and the rest of the Family tracks song better with BASS on them. The bill is in the mail Check out some Uptown issues if you want to know the backround on this stuff.

I should add that the original version, which has never been released really displays some VERY honest and personal lyrics. He sights the rumors doing around when Prince decided to replace Dez with Wendy Melvoin as his guitarist. (Say ya lost your fire, with another musician ya hired) He states "two friends of mine got stuck in the snow" which refers to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis missing a flight to a The Time concert which meant Jill Jones had to stand in for keyboards and Prince played bass guitar(behind the curtain) while Jerome Benton acted like he was playing bass on stage. "Cocaine becomes charming, to talk about things you don't know" "Someone said they would die for me, sold some more pictures and my little memories...chump change to unravel the mystery" Refers to Chick Huntsberry, that big white guy that was his bodyguard and personal friend to Prince, supporting a Cocaine habit by releasing his story on Prince to tabloids. Listening to this song again makes me feel very sorry for Prince, as he feels betrayed by ppl who did him wrong. I can see why he never released this version, but WHY destroy WALLY??? Ahh, nevermind

I'd check the lyrics and their order again:

These tracks were uploaded to abmp about a year ago, and some hadn't been widely circulating before that.
The version of Superfunkicalifragisexy is not the instrumental, but a proper extended version with a duration of 7:28. The version of data bank (8:33) is longer than previously circulating. We can funk is much better quality than previously available. I think a couple of other tracks werre different in some way too, but I can't remember whixh now.

I really want to hear the 12" version of 'High Fashion' that Eric Leeds once mentioned in an interview. Apparently the bass was reinstated, and it was all due to come out, but then promotion of The Family was ended when St Paul left.
