OK, what's "I'll Do Anything" In the thread on worst prince albums, BannanaCologne mentions "I'll Do Anything" soundtrack and says he's glad it wasn't released but at least 'Empty Room' was salvaged.
OK, I got 'Empty Room' from the NPGMC last year. I know that, but Mr.Cologne (or may I call you Bannana?) what was "I'll Do Anything"? "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

Cheers Dorothy! So he wrote summat & they turned it down? How come it's floating around? How bizarre... "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

Ahhh, just found the story on the t'internet. So, he wrote the music, they made a musical, test audiences hated the songs & the producers edited them all out!
I wonder if an uncut version ever got out? Perhaps on DVD they'll offer us both versions? Perhaps some naughty folk out there have it on bootleg? Ahh, just read that the R1 DVD does not include them. Pity, it sounds like it could all have been really cool. Like the sound of a Hollywood musical about families that's completely cynical. Actually, the whole 'I'll Do Anything' film production was a fiasco from the very beginning. The movie, starring Nick Nolte amongst others, was originally conceived as a very experimental musical containing preposterous scenes where actors burst into hilarious spontaneous singing. As a result, test audiences gave it the thumbsdown. It wasn't long before they pulled the plug on the entire enterprise and the movie was shelved. Prince's soundtrack was a casualty of the resulting mess, which is why the vast majority of those songs are now floating around as unreleased songs. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

As far as I know the movie hasn't seen a commercial release anywhere, with or without the singing parts.
However, if you can magically conjure up a VHS copy of this then send it to me immediately! . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

The movie, without the singing parts, was commercially released in theatres all over the world in 1994... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

this orger is eager to learn. "so tell me...what's this name change business i keep hearing about...?" Thanks fms! I'm not afraid to show my ignorance & this is the place to ask! I did try posting such questions on NPGMC at first, but soon realised there was a whole lot more knowledge at the org! So, who's this Victor chap? My friend David sings on the last Craig Armstrong album by the way. ...awww...Swans...... "Soundtracks for the Blind" is gorgeous...I can't get into their older punk rawk-ish stuff, but what they did later on was just brilliant, beautiful, dark stuff. Yum.

The Platinum bootleg goes into a little more detail about the project. I read somewhere that Tori Amos was also contributing songs to it.
The movie is awful. I can't even figure out where they would have fit those songs in. It must have really been bizzare in its original form. Can anyone picture Nick Nolte lip synching to Prince falsetto??? The songs are pretty good. "I'll Do Anything" and "Make Believe" have amusing lyrics and are pretty fun. "My Little Pill" is just wacky. "Empty Room" sounds much better in its later rock version.

That's earlier... "Empty Room" was recorded in 1985 with The Revolution, then re-recorded in 1992 for "I'll Do Anything" and then the 1985 recording was revamped in 1994... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O
