Prince was just talkin shit imho..he had no "the Dawn" song etc..he made stuff up as he went. Some songs he felt were too "good to be released" were held for this "Dawn" album ( he is quoted in Spin as saying something akin to this .."there was one great song I left off of D&P buyt that's for The Dawn album" etc). So finally he makes this Dawn spong up becaue he si free and its that lackluster song. Ugh

Yeah but I think the question being asked has more to do with the fact that on "The Truth" album it says "Welcome 2 the Dawn (Acoustic Version)" which suggests that there is a non-acoustic/plugged in version.

Not that a "plugged-in" version of 'Welcome 2 The Dawn' would be beyond Prince's abilities, RdHull, lol!

True lol..but Im jus sayin Prince probably made that Dawn song on th e cuff when he got released to hype the myth etc...plus The Dawn sounds like crap for such a song that was to be th e title of an album of "great songs too good to be released to the wrold".

The 'plugged in' version of "Welcome 2 The Dawn" is not
circulating. It does exist though, and was included on the
unreleased album 'The Dawn'.

U like that song? A lot of folks do from what Ive read..it just seems like a Prince throwaway tune to me. I knw it means more probably in sentiment etc but I had heard of this Dawn album for a decade or more and this was the title song? Yuck..plus I dont buy it. I feel he made this one up on th e cuff to copincide with the Truth or what have you. The lyuircs speak to much of his recent tragedies and feelings etc imho.

I always did. I could imagine a plugged in version, extended with some extra parts, that rocks out as a closer for a Dawn project.

Funny. I've always thought it would have made one hell of an opener.

I love this song. I bet the differences in the 2 versions would be similar the Empty Room '92 vs. '95.

It is believed in some circles that Prince is still working on "The Dawn" project/album by adding songs every now and then that he deems worthy and good enough for it...
He's been working on it since 1987... So maybe he'll finish it up soon and release it in one form or another...
But maybe it's all just an urban legend of some sort...

from what I heard, both versions of 'Welcome 2 The Dawn'
are from the unreleased 'The Dawn' album. The acoustic
version was rumored to be the opener (a kind of low key
intro like 'Visions' or 'Sign O The Times'), while the full-blown
version closed the album (like 'Purple Rain' or 'Gold'). Since
Prince has now used the acoustic version on 'The Truth' album,
he's obviously decided against that idea (assuming 'The Dawn'
ever sees the light of day at all).

The same version that ended up on "The Truth" appeared first on a promo cassette that was given out at Mill City, among other places. It said in the liner notes: "From the 4th coming album, "The Dawn".

I think Holy River was the A side.
