2045: Radical Man

I saw this on MusicMatch's download service the other day...I must have been living under a rock because I always pick up every official release.

Can anyone tell me anything about this track?

2045 was the b-side of the "Peace" hit n run single and can be found on the Bamboozled soundtrack smile

strangely, this was the b-side of "peace", a new single by the NPG promoted at npgonline back in march 2000. but before that single was released in a very limited pressing in the spring of 2001 (hit n run tour), it was included on the soundtrack to bamboozled in the fall of 2000, now credited to prince!
the song itself is mid-tempo, easy funk, not unlike emale. prince takes the soapbox, talking a lot about how non-musicians control what gets played instead of musicians. he rants on about how this matrix of corporations has for iits goal "the destruction of the so-called radical man by 2045." lots of soundbites and weired noises going on. definitely worth getting the soundrack, as this is one of the few songs from that period (post-rave, pre-npgmc) to see the light of day on an official CD release.

I agree Peace is average but 2045 is amazing... i love the sound effects, the voice layers, the "james brown, chuck D and jimi" bit towards the end... its mellow and funky at the same time.

Warning: The Promo version of Bamboozled has the "cuss words" removed with a machette. Find the one with the parental advisory sticker.

This track gives me quite a chuckle everytime I hear it and some of the programming is highly inventive.

I have never been able to work out some of the lyrics, though. Does Prince actually say "it's the GREEN LION"???

Somebody clarify, please...lol

I think he says 'Oh no, it's the Green Mile', like the Stephen King book-series and movie starring Tom Hanks.

No idea why that makes sense, but the movie came out around the time the song was written/recorded.

2045: Radical Man is a very cool song. It's quite funky and
has a nice mellow feel to it. I like the semi-spoken vocals
and the message isn't too screwed up either.

The intro and outro always make me chuckle, but I still do
think it's a cool way to begin and end a song.

Especially some of the multi-tracked vocals remind me very
much of Camille. ["Come On" vox meets "Scarlet Pussy"]

The soundbites are cool. Some of which actually hadn't been
used to death in a hoard of other Prince songs.

The Green Mile "solo" if that's what you can call it smile is
so fucked up I don't even know what to think of it. But it
was a breath of fresh air in a time when a majority of the
tunes he churned out ran a predictable paint by numbers kind
of course.

Only thing I don't understand is why it was a slated b-side
for "Peace" sing it is lightyears better than "Peace" imo.

Now if I can just find a copy of "Bamboozled" somewhere at my local Best Buy store... hmm

Fuckin' LOOOVE Radical Man. It was such an amazingly funky indication that Prince was still alive...interestingly, I don't know that I've heard anything he's done since that made me feel quite that excited.

At any rate, The Green Mile solo is DELISH. I love when he goes, "WAY DOWN!" and then the fixes the distortion on the keyboards or whatever.

He's referrin to death row (which is what the Green Mile was in the film)... the whole song is basically talking about all the things that bringing death to humanity and it's a call to wake up.

or is it that he is saying green mile is a distortion of the truth???
Isn't the green mile supposed to be based on acctual events, but could quite possibly be distorted as to advocate some(wrong) message?(to make some one look good) I thought that was the point of mentioning it and the nerve racking guitar afterwards (distortion of the truth)

but I love the song it is an anthem for the problems of the world an anthem for as NuPwr said to WAKE UP!!!

"right now 20 million people are being wiped off the face of the earth by a disease that they claim is no
cure!

We don't care what albert einstien did rather know rather know how'd they build the pyramids???"

They claim Miles Davis, Micheal A'ngelo...

ooo he sayin alot in this one that why its one of my favs

like Crystalball...little babies in make-up terrorising western world...hehe

this is when he is genius with a political message..bob marley

When he says "oh no it's the green mile," I always took it as his critique of the prison industrial complex...like oh no here's another thing that's been put in our way to survival.

Great message, but I've never liked the song itself

πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν
τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

I always thought that "Green Mile" solo was kinda scary, cuz
to me it sounds like someone resisting being led to a place
and pushing the soles of their feet on the floor whilst
others drag him across it.

So for me, it's the sound of someone being dragged to
deathrow, the last few yards, and they resist heavily.

It does sound like shoes on linoleum. Weird.
