Try NewsShark to download with http://www.wmhsoft.com/NewsShark/

It will combine the files for you, much easier than Outlook Express. NewsShark is shareware, but you can use it with up to 2 different newsgroups at a time unregistered. Set it up with your ISPs news server. Won't work with AOL. Most ISPs won't retain posts very long though.

I use EasyNews http://www.easynews.com/ You get 6 gigs per month for $9.95, extra if you go over. I like it because they keep the files up to a month, so I can download at my leisure.

If you are using Outlook Express and want to download a file, you need to select all the parts of that file, then combine and decode.

Whatever you decide to use, once you get the hang of it, you'll love it! I hope you have a reasonably fast connection. I have DSL and still can spend hours downloading.

Good luck!

And how much should we charge 4 that?
If u would prefer it we could just not do this at all.

A paid service is better since the tend to keep the messages on the server longer, where as using your ISP's news server, you may find that some of the parts of messages are missing before you get a chance to get them all.

The files are sent to the newsgroup cut up into smaller pieces (because there are restrictions on the size of newsnet messages), and your software should be able to encode them back together.

Personally, I don't use it much, I find you can find most stuff that gets posted to the newsgroups other places like the royal hub for example, but I use XNews http://xnews.newsguy.com/ - which is free and very easy to use.

You need to setup with your ISPs newsserver. Check your ISPs FAQ on setting up newsgroups. I wouldn't use NewsShark for Alt.Music.Prince, even though it should work, AMP doesn't have binary files, only text posts. After you get the setup figured out, you want alt.binaries.multimedia.prince, that's where the goods are.

Good luck!

Er, cocked up. It's not Newshark, it's Xnews. I've hooked up but the only alt.binaries news group on offer is alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.teen

Is this Xnews or my ISP that's holding me back?

He he, that figures. I don't know about Xnews. There should be a way to reset or update your ISPs list of groups. Try NewsShark. If nothing works out, you may end up having to pay a service like Easynews or Giganews. Easynews doesn't have a free trial period anymore, but Giganews does. Check it out. I like the way Easynews is set up. They have both a web version and servers you can set up with Outlook or NewsShark. I like the web setup myself. It has previews for pictures and videos before you download it, and it has a feature to combine multiple files in zip format.

I wish I had an answer for you.
