Strange Relationship "vs" Strange Relationship Although I really dig the recent arrangement of Strange Relationship on the ONA tour, and love the Aladdin DVD version, I was glued to my 1987 First Avenue SOTT "rehearsal" concert video last night, and forgot how slammin' Strange Relationship was there on that night. Deep, Funky, Hypnotic. He's playin the Rhodes through most of the song... The whole "Yeah...Yeah" chant is there. This is the "meet my new friends"... "4 those of U on Valium, my name is Prince" show. Oh yeah... Girls and Boys was cool. Miko playin' a classic Prince funk guitar line... I grabbed my Tele and couldn't stop.
Peace. G. [This message was edited Fri Sep 26 5:57:21 PDT 2003 by Giovanni777] "He's a musician's musician..."

Am I the only one here who has seen this?
I kinda doubt it. Well? G. "He's a musician's musician..."

Yeah, I love the First Avenue 87 version. Probably my favorite, although I do have to admit I think it was two or three minutes too long...

The version on 4 Those of U on Valium is my absolute favorite version of this song (which is also one of my faveorite songs period). I could go on that groove forever. Love the snippet of the "new shit"...Superfunkycalifragisexi. I like ONAL's version too...esp Rhonda's bass. But I don't think he'll ever top the version he did at 1st Ave in 1987.

Yeah... It's a Jam alright. Then the whole squirrelmeat thing... "when you hear the words squirrel meat, put one leg on your neighbor and get off"... then he does it with his Rhodes.
I really dig P's "we're gonna try out some new stuff on U...and on us..." Do U have the video or just the audio? 'Cause the video is off tha hook. G. i absoultely LOVE the arrangement on ONA live. it seems to me that strange relationship was meant to sound that way. like the SOTT version is a demo and now, 16 yrs later it has finally been fleshed out to sound the way it was meant to sound:
enduring relevance, the sign of a great album. SOTT rules. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Actually, I love the outtake version with the intro. That's cool. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I really liked the way he dragged that version out. Though the only version I have of that show is a early black vinly pressing with poor sound reproduction.

Special kudos must go to the rehearsal version from '84, the one straight after the 40 minute version of 'Billy', where P teaches The Revolution the chords.
It rocks like a mutha and that's the earliest version you can hear! . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
