Stymie on Australia

I truly do not know how I would feel if I lived in Australia but I don't. I live in America. If I had the resources and opportunity to attend a show where I could sit on the stage with Prince, party with Prince, afterparty with Prince then I wouldn't give two strokes and a pump how much he was charging for it. Prince was touring for fifteen years before I could afford to see him in an afterparty where he only performed three songs. I stood there for five hours for that, and I was happy. From what I understand, there are options for those who can't afford all the perks and if I really wanted to see the man, I would go to the show I could afford. Yes, I know. My opinion will not be popular. Bring your best, but for today, I am the biggest fammy fam on the planet AND I am stealing Calhoun Square's job as Prince's bitch.

P.S. Jason, Chris, Andrew...please don't kill me!!

i agree to an extent, but it's the true fans that miss out,
Not all the fans can afford such prices, regardless of how much we would like to meet and greet, generally most of those will probably go to ppl who only know purple rain or raspberry beret, but if you can , good luck and i really hope it's worth it, if my budget was bigger i would probably go for it.

It's not about whether you can or cannot afford to pay the whacked out ticket prices, its the fact that he or any other musician is pompous and greedy enough to exploit their fans like that.

Ivy, I like Chris' idea...I got a cowboy hat and a digital camera, so all you gotta supply is that saucy wink o' yours.

If you got the time, Australia, Stymie's got the ride...

Exactly - especially coming from an artist who still performs "Money Don't Matter Tonight," it seems incredibly greedy. And doesn't he supposedly not want to encourage "idol worship"? Charging people $400 bucks extra to "meet and greet" seems to encourage fanatic behavior, doesn't it? Who else would pay such an outrageous amount, unless they're rich and it just doesn't matter?

You can't exploit anyone that doesn't allow it, Tom. A lot of us have been around since the very beginning and nothing Prince does should suprise anyone.

I am not surprised at all. Prince has never had any respect for his fans, he bragged about being number one at the bank and to him it is more satisfying to charge few people loads of money (no matter if for tickets or records) than to have a large number of fans who pay reasonable prices. So true, we shouldn't be surprised, but that does not make the situation any better, doesn't it?

For someone who's made it his philosophy never to utter a peep to fans or the press this year, it seems like he'll have a lot to say to you if you've got a thousand bucks for him.

Sorry, but there are people who have better things to say that I could talk to for free. Hell, even the JWs in my area will witness gratis...and they'll even come to my house! How's that for service?

There's an aspect of what you're saying that makes sense, Stymie - what I think is sad is that this is the most absolutely blatant exploitation of that "fammy-fam/I'll do anything" mentality, which only exists because people still love and admire his work.

I said it before and I'll say it again - being a Prince fan is like dating an emotionally abusive asshole that you can't break up with because the sex is too damn good.

I wonder, Anx, what is Prince's motivation in all of this? Could part of it be to thank his Australian fans for their patience and loyalty? Yes, I know it's expensive but I really don't ever see this type of offer being made to those in the states or elsewhere. As far as the meet and greet thing, I really can't see P talking to any of the fans.

If a big chunk of those VIP ticket prices went to some charity, perhaps even a charity benefitting folks in Australia directly, then okay, I can see how this would be a thank-you. If he were to schedule some kind of free or cheap quickie club show for NPGMC members IN ADDITION to these CONcerts, then okay, I can see the "thank you".

But the way it is, it seems like Prince would rather have his fans in Australia thank HIM, profusely.

Typical.
