I was watching Vacation recently and it occurred to me that Holiday Road sounds like a knockoff of Prince's rockabilly style.Even the way the vocals are layered like something off of the Controversy album a la Private Joy.And Buckingham is a sorta' white prince..he is narcissistic,multi-instrumentalist,prolific songwriter,had the big curly hair,wore eyeliner and boots,and very egocentric.


other Prince related movie notes:wendy and lisa scored the great Juwanna Mann soundtrack,Sexuality is in the movie,Summer Lovers,Under the Cherry Moon is so ridiculous that it's funny,Jesse has a song on Beverly Hills cop sndtrk,...uh,my mind justw ent blank!sorry.

Ya can't really say someone's trying to cop Prince's style if they write a rockabilly song - it would be like if someone wrote a psychadelic song and you said they were ripping off "Around the World in a Day". Prince might have his own signature sound, but rockabilly ain't necessarily it.

It probably is too harsha word to say "knock-off".Your points are valid.I was kinda' wondering out loud.I was real young when the movie originally was released and I'm wondering about the pop landscape,at that time.Artists have released similar tyle songs at the time of aother hot or influential artist before for a pop hit.It's not unprecedented and hardly inconceivable.Ghostbusters is a very blatant example of this.

I really didn't mean to sound negative.I was curious about this..Buckingham is extremely talented.No doubt.But a lot of talented people have been influenced by others when writing.It happens to me sometimes(and I'm not even talented) and it pisses me!

I also remember seeing Rod Stewart talking about trying to make a hit song and wanting to use the hot drum sound of the day or whatever.So,sometimes it is a conscious effort to sound current.

Anyway.Sometimes,the words I type don't meet with the meaning I actually have.

Actually, Prince was on Larry King a few years ago and said Fleetwood Mac was a big musical influence on him in the late 70s...Lindsey was the music behind FM in the late 70s...
