As I've said before, I stopped buying new stuff from Prince following TRC. When his ONA tour hit Copenhagen, one of my friends called and asked if I wanted to go regardless. When I heard the prices, I laughed my butt off. No way would I pay that amount of money to watch a tragedy - a has-been - perform anything.
And have I ever had second thoughts? No. I don't care about anything Prince does now. I love hos old stuff, c'est toute. "But, he plays the old stuff at the shows," you say? "No," I say. "That is someone else doing cover versions of Prince's old stuff." [This message was edited Thu Sep 25 6:19:40 PDT 2003 by scififilmnerd] FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

TAKE A STAND?
We didn't accept the fact that we had to pay $100 for the Nighttown aftershow. So we didn't go... He must have really hated that, since now it was only sold out, and there were more people inside than allowed. He must have really missed us...! It's useless ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

exactly. he pimpin ya'll like a mofo--he's definitely takin advantage of the fact that he hasn't played down under in eons and that ya'll have been starvin for 'im to play live...but y'know what? get regular seating, the tix that cost the least. i don't get the concept of that--"i spent all my rent money to sit up on stage with prince, eee!!!" s'okay to go, but all that high-priced chit he's peddlin...ain't worth it. it's nice that he's providin them options, but at those prices? puh-leeze.

It is very easy to say you would be delighted to get far less than everyone else in the world has got when yopu never had to confront that choice. p.s For all of you out there that dont know, it is far cheaper to put on a concert out here as compared to many other countries so most of the cost is the travel. To be honest though bkw - I didn't expect much for my measly $25 USD subscription to NPGMC. I pretty much felt it was just to gain access to the website, like many other subs-based sites. If you can buy tickets to see Prince live for $88, there really isn't much to complain about it. Last year the club membership was more expensive and included perks for concert tickets. This year, it isn't and it doesn't really. I just don't see you as getting "less" - you have more choice. Those with cash to burn get to meet Prince! Everyone else can get cheap tickets if they want, without any big $100 outlay on joining NPGMC. I wouldn't be too bothered about soundchecks myself. It's certainly not worth paying much money for, unless you have cash to burn. What I *did* appreciate last year was the aftershow gig... I'm guessing NPGMC members will still get into those though this year?

Maybe I'm missing the point, but really for me, a chance to see Prince in concert is great, something to look forward to. If the tickets are affordable (and the cheaper ones are, in this case) then I'm happy. Anyone who shelled out $100 NPGMC membership especially for concert tickets last year got a raw deal - this year the deal is different.
Really all the "perks" are things you can live without. It's all about the music isn't it? Turn up, watch Prince do his songs, and go home. Who cares about soundchecks or any of that other shite? Dull dull dull. Don't get me wrong - if I was rich enough I'd buy a $1000 ticket and meet Prince just like the rest of you would... but I can think of better things to do with my money.

It's a music fest hence the game is different ... look at the prices to see the Rolling Stones they always have such high prices... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"

I think only the Hong Kong gig is part of a music festival. The Australia concerts are regular Prince concerts and not part of a festival. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

Isn't it a bit hypocritical that Prince won't sign autographs for people anymore, but he has no problem charging them several hundred dollars for a chance to *meet* him?!?!
I'm sorry, but thats just pure fucking greed. No matter what star does that. You're paying more to *meet* him that you would be paying to see him perform for a few hours, which is the real reason why people are there in the first place.

You're paying more to *meet* him that you would be paying to see him perform for a few hours, which is the real reason why people are there in the first place. It may be the real reason you are there in the first place, but many people are there because they idolize him. And you are right, good point, it is hypocritical of him to refuse to sign autographs because they encourage idolatry, and to then charge $1000 for a chance to meet him. The difference? Well, he doesn't get $1000 for signing an autograph, it merely makes somebody happy. Let's keep our priorities straight, here.
